The 1D3 is one of those great combinations of superior IQ and high performance, and I doubt if tons of 1D3 users are wanting to jump ship to the 7D, but you might wait to see more real results from the 7D. When you are shooting little critters that 18 MP might come in handy, as long as you have the good glass and technique.

I am definately not giving up my 1D3 for a 7D. No way. Not a chance.

I haven't read yet if they've finished the re-calls on the M3 (is the AF finally stabilized)? My only issue with it was that it refused to track whites well (which is a hindrance to a wedding photog). The ds2 was eons ahead in AF tracking. (that's just my opinion and it's true that they've had 2 or 3 recalls on the AF since I sold mine).

I'm one of those who haven't had a problem with my 1D3 -- in fact, at times when I'm shooting a high volume of shots I've wished I had more losers:)! It's interesting about the white/wedding phenomenon, though -- could it be from lack of contrast?

My 1D3 has always worked okay for me. I submitted it for all the recalls, and I know repairs were made, but I had not experienced any problems with it. I have not heard any recent complaints about AF problems, so I would consider it a generally closed issue.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

I think so. When I was shooting single focus AF, for portraits, it locked onto the bride no problem. But when I was shooting in aiservo (for the walk down the aisle) it always focused on anything but the bride. I can't tell you how many times my shots with the brides and their fathers were sub-par when the whole rest of the wedding party walking down the aisle was just fine.

Ouch! Well, I'm not a wedding shooter -- if I ever have to do one I'll just have to insist that she wear anything but white:)!

That does sound like an exasperating problem, though...

There was a post that had a couple test photos from 5D classic and 7D comparing ISO 800 and 3200. The 5D photos was BETTER than 7D in terms of detail and noise.

(I always said the 5D was worth every penny of it's existence...it's amazing how it's still holding up to current tech.)

The 5D is one of those rare events when the stars all line up just right. It's an amazing camera even today. Heck, even Nikon compared it's bodies against the 5D.

I love my 5D2. Really want a mark III though for the autofocus for when I am doing more action related shots.

I got to shoot a MkIII a few times and it's the main reason I am not happy with my 50D.

Nor would I.. I f I had one.

I am so on the fence. My 50D is doing what I need it to do for the most part except for the AF. BIF (both bird and bug) pics are still extremely challenging and more often than not it goes off hunting as it lost tracking. I have yet to get a single dragonfly in flight, bee in flight, even hoverfly in flight shot worth posting. Tons of OOF pics though. I was so pumped to pick up the 5DMkII but it didn't address my main concern and I saw basically the same test between the 5D and the MkII and the 5D still did better. I'm waiting to see some real world examples from the 7D before making a decission between the MkII or the 7D. If it's AF proves to be significantly better then the 50D, I think I'm upgrading.

s'okay to babble Gil. I was thinking out loud a lot when I was trying to decide to keep my M3...my gosh I know I wore the floor thin with my verbal pacing  Then again when I was considering switching nikon. Everyone here knew I was moving over about 7 months before I did. I was so shocked too. When I finally told them all I was doing it, no one was surprised.:lol:

Heh! Sometimes use of the word Word is legit! And, every year I get younger -- that started when I turned 40 or so.

Maybe I should just go with the MkIII and be done with it. :)

My trouble is that I'm into too many kinds of photography. Macro, travel, birding and such. The ds2 is a nice camera but it's so dang big. Thats the only thing keeping me from a MkIII. I've already got a backpack just to carry my gear and when biking (bicycle) my back is killing me. I dread putting more heavy geat in there. With the mkIII comes the brick instead of the 17-55, the 17-40 instead of the 10-22, and the 500mm instead of the 400mm. I'll die from the added weight. Even the 50D is too big but there is nothing smaller that matches it's performance.

I want something the size of the G11 with changeable lenses and SLR performance and from 16mm to 640mm coverage.
