I am totally bummed...I only got to spend an hour in San Antonio...so I tried to make the best of it...those shots are all MIA. And the shots I took of the Fish and Chips joint...and dinner with my sister are all not showing either....I guess I need to run the recovery software and see if they accidentally got formatted or something...seems odd...I have images missing from 3 different cameras.

Well, I guess you'll just have to make the trip again.

That would be the easiest thing to talk my bride into. Sure.

Maybe this time we can all go to an Apple Store and change the browser default pages to POTN. It's go a lot quicker if there are a few of us.

You two are a couple of regular comedians...but I tell you what...if I wasn't obligated to be a doggie sitter for the next two weeks...I would take you up on that. I had a riot out there.

Dan, it was still "Population Control" season. You need to come back once we get to the "Why We Live Here" weather...

Maybe you can come a little farther west next trip, although there are still lots of things left to see and do in AZ. I think we do have more Apple Stores in California, though.

Well...I did have some firsts...first meal at a Red Robin...had a very good burger and a couple of beers there. First meal at a Claimjumpers...had some excellent prime rib there. Ate at a decent place with Wu...but the name escapes me...guess the company was too good. Then again...had a pretty good meal with friends in Scottsdale too.

Glad you like the dinner in Scottsdale. Kristy and I always worry when we make restaurant suggestions...

The "Sticks" (TV Name for a Tripod) and fluid head they were using with that 1200mm are identical to that used by TV News crews just about world wide. We use Sachtler gear in Sports TV as well.

Oh, and I loves me a 300mm f/2.8L IS as well...

Dam nice work.

I am officially distraught. I can't find any of the images from day two or day five and six of my trip....missing numbers indicate I have lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 images. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Oh no, hope you can find them.

Who needs a super-tele for birding.....

when a macro lens does just fine.

I though cool I have the dual hilights from the twin light in the eye, and yes I do but they are the bottom hilight. It seperates into two when zoomed in, with the top one the sun. Both are slight crops just to improve composition.

Hey, speaking of fluid heads,
http://www.manfrotto.com …nfrotto/pid/13166/lang/en (external link)

I am contemplating that one.. 501HDV. For smoother panning on my 5D2 when I shoot video. My Markins Q3 is nice and has panning base but does not offer the same smooth damped motion that others seem to be getting.

What do you guys think?

The key with pan/tilt for video is you actually want some resistance against which to work.

The largest professional pan heads like you'd have under a camera like this:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'

actually have "Drag" adjustments to increase or decrease pan and tilt friction. They don't take the place of actual pan/tilt locks but most camera operators want some drag so they are making the camera go where they want instead of just letting the camera swing or tilt freely.

It allows for much more precise moves.

Probably more info than you wanted but after 20+ years in TV, it all just sort of comes blurting out. ;)
