No problem. I have very little (negligible actually) video experience so your advice is very valuable. :)

Would you recommend the smaller 701HDV head for the 5D2 or the bigger 501HDV?

701 is here:

If it was just my HF100 (tiny HD camcorder, coke can size) I would buy the 701 without a thought but the 5D2 is significantly bigger.

Depends on what glass you might end up using...

If you might throw a 300 f/2.8 and/or bigger on it, I'd go for more support. A larger head will give you smoother moves swinging that much mass as well.

And with that pearl of wisom, I bid you all a fond goodnight! Moooooooo..........

JJ....this was taken at 80 mph through the windshield...forgive the softness...but an actual avalanche shed.

Ya know I have seen those before but never knew that they were called show sheds.

I am officially distraught. I can't find any of the images from day two or day five and six of my trip....missing numbers indicate I have lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 images. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Ouch!! In the workds of a famous ex-president.. "I feel you pain". I have yet to recover about 1/2 of my Calif images. Have you tried to use a recovery program on them?

Well...I did have some firsts...first meal at a Red Robin...had a very good burger and a couple of beers there. First meal at a Claimjumpers...had some excellent prime rib there. Ate at a decent place with Wu...but the name escapes me...guess the company was too good. Then again...had a pretty good meal with friends in Scottsdale too.

Claimjumpers had some pretty decent ribs if I'm remembering correctly.

I guess you are trying a recovery program. Glad it's working.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

My family calls me Hen, but you can call me Chicken. See you out there!

Yikes. Take it easy....

W00l, do you use a ballhead with your monopod? I still have not worked out a good monopod workflow since the vast majority of the time, I am either handholding or bring the full set of sticks and that inevitably means ballhead. Yup...100-400 on the tripod..

Yo, everyone!

Dan, have you made any more progress on your missing shots? Big time bummer to miss that much stuff from such a nice trip!
