Yikes. Take it easy....

W00l, do you use a ballhead with your monopod? I still have not worked out a good monopod workflow since the vast majority of the time, I am either handholding or bring the full set of sticks and that inevitably means ballhead. Yup...100-400 on the tripod..

No ball head on the monopod....I use a Manfrotto 3229 head. Gives me quick 1 axis rotation....all I really need with a monopod...I can gain the other with a simple tilt of the stick.

Dan, have you made any more progress on your missing shots? Big time bummer to miss that much stuff from such a nice trip!

I think he is using it as an excuse so he can say to the missus "Oh dear, looks like we're going to have to take another trip out there again to make up for the lost shots"

Hope you recover them all Dan.

Yo, everyone!

Dan, have you made any more progress on your missing shots? Big time bummer to miss that much stuff from such a nice trip!

Only salvage was the video clip from the Royal Gorge RR trip...the Houston and San Antonio images are gone...as are all my family shots in Phoenix.

No such luck...did a recovery on every SD card I own...all 241 missing numbers are gone....recovery finds no trace other than the one missing video. Currently finishing up doing all the CF cards I used....but that is looking no better.

Wow, so it's not a missing card, but actually missing shots? That sucks...

The "Sticks" (TV Name for a Tripod) and fluid head they were using with that 1200mm are identical to that used by TV News crews just about world wide. We use Sachtler gear in Sports TV as well.

Oh, and I loves me a 300mm f/2.8L IS as well...

I am officially distraught. I can't find any of the images from day two or day five and six of my trip....missing numbers indicate I have lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 images. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sorry to hear about your loss of photos Dan.

The worst part is...I am sure that I looked at them on the laptop....but there is no evidence of them there...and nothing is showing on the cards either.

Well...I did have some firsts...first meal at a Red Robin...had a very good burger and a couple of beers there. First meal at a Claimjumpers...had some excellent prime rib there. Ate at a decent place with Wu...but the name escapes me...guess the company was too good. Then again...had a pretty good meal with friends in Scottsdale too.

We have a few Claimjumpers out here, and I really like them. I'm especially fond of their chicken pot pie. Yummy. We have a Red Robin very close to us here, but for some reason, we never go there. Hmmmm. Maybe we'll have to give it a try.

Glad you like the dinner in Scottsdale. Kristy and I always worry when we make restaurant suggestions...

That was a great place!! I'd take your recommendation anytime.

Any ideas on what happened?

How could something like that happen?

I've never heard of Claimjumpers, but I do go to Red Robin if I want a "gourmet" hamburger!

I honestly don't know...I took great pains to make sure that I had two back-ups of everything...one on the laptop and one on the external HD...plus the cards themselves...very bizarre...I was trying very hard to be extra careful and I still end up screwed.

Ahh.. got it. I would probably still stick the ball on just for a bit more flexibility since I am not planning on buying this head. It would be bare pod or Q3 ballhead for me.
