All that matters. As long as it isn't keeping your family from eating, wearing clothes and having a roof over their heads...and as long as the Mrs. hasn't told you to go sleep in the garage...I would say you are all set. ;)

We're all good here then!! Actually looking better as the wife called today to say she's back in full time work again from next week. She's been part time since this time last year.

I'm Mr Mom at the moment as Tracey is in Sydney for 4 days on a business trip. It's given me an excuse to get a little more exercise as I've been walking into work from my in-laws place where I've been dropping my son and the car off. 25min walk into town from their place.

Yup....that's the nice thing about being a hobbyist. We already have jobs to pay the bills. And they're jobs because they feel like work.

Yeah, many people at work look at my shots (plastered about my Dilbert style cubicle) and say "Why don't you do this as a business" and I always reply "because I like it as a hobby". Plus I like my job (not always:rolleyes:), the pay is good and the conditions are great. 9 day fortnight anyone - every second Monday my rostered day off.

What do the cricket shooters normally use? 180 macro? :p

haha, never thought of it that way.

Wow, the exchange rate is back in our favour again. $1Au=0.9266US. I could have saved a few $ if I had waited 'till now to import some RRS gear. There have been rumours that it might crack the $1 barrier. Grey market prices will drop again.

Last time this happened 12mths ago one of the Grey Market importers here went out of business when he was caught with too much stock bought at bad exchange rates and could sell it for any profit. Hard businesses to run in a fluctuating monetary market.

Just unloading a couple of pennies, here. The 24/25fps argument is - I believe - a valid one. If you're shooting in conjunction with movie stuff, converting from 30 - 24 fps is going to be less than gratifying. 25-24 is bad enough.

As for the NTSC v PAL argument, well, NTSC came first. Mechanical typewriters came first. Bias belted tyres came first.

Yes, PAL is better than NTSC, but it was created as an evolutionary stage in broadcast video. And there is a better standard again, SECAM.

There is a way to convert a PAL TV to display NTSC. It gets technical here. Set up a phase splitter in front of the delay line. Time it so that it inverts the phase of the burst on every second line. Set up a second phase splitter on the output of the delay-line (this might be a term unfamiliar to you NTSC chaps) and time it so that it inverts the r-y signal during display time on that every second line (a 4066 should do nicely, it did for me). NTSC lovers, welcome to the glorious world of PAL. You may also need to replace your 4.433 MHz Subcarrier crystal with a 3.58 Mhz rock.

I've an old prototype around here, I'll see if I can find it.

Whine whine whine, the 5D's AWB is poor.

WTF? In tens of thousands of frames ranging from beautiful to horrible light the AWB has virtually never been off for me. Oh, but then again, I work behind calibrated monitors. Maybe some folks need their eyes examined (and I thought mine were bad as it is already). In fact, the 5D's (both) have superb AWB, beating out both the 40D and the 350D by a hair. As for metering, the 5D is noticeably better than the 40D especially in difficult lighting.

I love that airplane gauge. I've been using it and it's quite handy. :)

Pics please, if you can find it.

So, is this a one time mod or reversible?

And there is a better standard yet - 1080/30P!
