Hi JJ, waking up?

NO!!.. It's gray, raining, cold, damp, generally miserable. I'd rather be home doing a little snuggling.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

OK....I picked up my HMC150 from a local dealer.

Damn, what a camera.

Sure it's a video camera, but the feeling is the same - have you ever picked up a camera, and the moment you held it and switched it on you felt it was "yours"? That it was destined for you, designed the way you wanted it to be, and MEANT to be a keeper? Nothing in the spec sheet will tell you this. Nothing in the reviews or what you read on the forums will tell you this.

My harshest test for a lens is that it has sixty seconds to impress me using whatever means necessary. If it can blow my socks off in sixty seconds I know I will keep it for life. The 5DMk1 and the 10-22 set the record. I think the 10-22 took 15 seconds. The 5Dmk1 blew my mind the moment my eye touched the viewfinder - three seconds.

For me, only these select pieces of gear have ever felt like that and all of them have been lifetime keepers.
350D
EF-S 17-85
EF-S 10-22
5DMk1
24-105
17-40
100-400
5DMk2

Notice there isn't even a 70-200 on that list. I have one, but it doesn't have that special X-factor feel.

My list of ex-glass has been pretty damned exhaustive too. Lots of stuff I bought and sold and wished I never owned.

Thank God....indeed.....

The 150 got its sixty seconds.

I fired it up on the showroom floor in crappy indoor flourescent light in the late evening, after sunset.

It gave me a f/4.0 aperture WITH NO GAIN. No image amplification. NO NOISE. 1/50 sec shutter.

Holy cow.

It's mine all right. You know what? The HMC40 is not even a Rebel. It's a S5 IS. The HMC150 is like comparing a 5DMk2 with 28-300 IS USM L against a S5 IS.

I go that with the 7D. It is the camera I have been seeking.

Congrats :)

I feel that the 'feel' is more important than the technical specs. For example, I never had an affinity for the 1-series despite having owned two of the 1D's, shot the 1D3 and the 1DsMk2. Never liked 'em. So to me, a 5D is far more valuable because it is more 'me'. It is the shoe with the perfect fit.

Same here. I loved the feature set, image quality, sound, and performance of the MkIII I got to play with. It was all I was looking for but I hated the body. It was just too bulky for me and felt all wrong. It's a personal thing I know as there are many who love the fell of grips, but I'm not one of those.
