Standards & conversion.

Pics please, if you can find it.

So, is this a one time mod or reversible?

And there is a better standard yet - 1080/30P!

I'm looking...

It was designed to switch automatically from PAL to NTSC and back, so yes, it's reversable (apart from the crystal, you'll probably need to manually replace that).

Essentially, It replaces the colour-chain with a pal re-encoding chain (as against transcoding), so if it works (and it should), you'll have no need to revert (once you go PAL, you'll never go back).

Oh yes, given that the delay-line is frequency-specific, you'll probably need to replace it with a PAL-M (That could be PAL-N) item to maintain the 90 degree phase relationship at 3.58 MHz and 15,750 Hz line rate.

Essentially, it consists of two phase invertors (2n2222 and friends) 270 ohms from c to 12v, 270 ohms from e to deck. bias at half rail. The original design didn't take DC-offset into account (it didn't seem to matter). If you're a purist, a long-tailed pair will give a better DC match, though I wouldn't bother myself with the extra complexity.

Timing, we had a PAL flipflop to inform whether the line was odd or even. You may have to roll your own. A T type toggled by HSync will probably do the trick.

A 7556 (dual timer) will probably serve for the timing chain. The first stage (triggered by the T type) switches the burst to invert. It should end just after burst time The second stage will be triggered by the first, inverting the r-y signal from the delay line.

I can't find the proto board, which sh!ts me to tears. I know the box it was in and what else was in there. There was five years of my life in that box.

Yep - she rocketed up to 600,000-some posts for a while there. But the denizens of that thread are getting nailed by every POTN Poltergeist imaginable . . .

Poor Lisa. Once she was exiled to the Wedding Forum. So tragic.;)

That reminds me too, I am still banned...... and have NO desire to change it :p

For I am banned from a place far worse than WF. It makes WF look tame :p

Sounds complex. I understand some of the basics of what you've mentioned though. Still, it seems like a lot of voodoo to convert between the two formats.

Sadly, none of this voodoo has changed. Today, we have outrageously complex workflows to convert 30P to 25P/24P smoothly and without stutter. (the simple workflows won't give you that).

Worse than the wedding forum? That place was so bad, we eliminated it.

Belmondo and his avatar

Belmondo wrote in post #8876180 (external link)
You are certainly in the right part of the country for making POTN friends. There's a real cluster of them in the Washington area, and/or not for from there.

I removed the avatar and other information in hopes of becoming a bit more anonymous. Turns out I'm not universally loved, and I'm just lowering my profile while I think of ways to improve my image, and to mend a couple fences.

Basically, I'm just taking a rest.

When joining a forum, the first thing you do is to read. You test the waters to determine who is full of sh... er, themselves and who is not. Who makes a positive contribution to the community and who just wastes the time of everyone who has to read through their posts.

You, sir, are a credit to this forum. Rather than throwing your weight around, you pull your weight. You criticise only when necessary and in doing so, in the eyes of any intelligent reader, your comment is purely constructive.

I'm from Oz, we don't mince words here. Anyone who has a problem with what you have to say, I can probably rustle up a couple of razorbacks to "mediate".

That you had to significantly alter your on-line presence, however briefly, shames us all.

Ah, so.

Serious?

That was quite a while ago. Now, it's a sub-forum under 'Weddings and Other Family Events.' It's a much kinder, gentler place now.

That is a sad day!

I need to get around to getting windows 7. I have been running the RC since August and have been very happy with it.
