That is a steep increase in a matter of months!

they did it in 4 stages. One just before I was buying my gear but hadn't made up my mind on everything and once in btw. buying the zooms & the primes (I bought my zooms right away) the prices went up once. Thankfully a local dealer gave me the old price on the 300F4. And then it just kept going up. I got my flashes local too...one of them at a Circuit City that was going out of business. I was lucky. Then the prices went up again 2x.

Which is why I am not so tempted by glass nowadays.

Was considering the 70-200/2.8 ISL, but after the 724ISL's absolutely phenomenal performance at a recent concert where I shot over 3K frames, virtually all coming out magnificent, I think I am going to stay with this f/4.

Lots of people tell me 'you need f/2.8' till I almost start to believe it. You don't. The results speak for themselves - and I've spent the last five solid days staring at them to try and finish PP'ing them all. Background blur, subject isolation, yet maintaining proper DOF - it's all there. "more blur at 2.8" - so what - I talk to the 135/2.0 when I want to nuke backgrounds.

I miss the mini-ninja more than I can express. After shooting for 7.5 hrs at the last wedding hauling that nikon behemoth, I was dying. The mini did as well or better (I haven't shot this one in low light yet) with it's exceptional IS performance. I just miss it.

Ahh, our prospective Nikon hopefuls will be overjoyed.

The 70-200 VR is finally released as a FX lens ;) (or we hope ;) )

I kinda like the new version's look better than the old one. The new one has cleaner lines and a more consistent barrel diameter like our 70-200L.

Expensive, but just at the right time! I'll be buying that version. ;)

I dunno. I've seen more than a few people with entry level gear decide that they couldn't afford to upgrade in the nikon camp, move over to canon so they could. It adds up...even though canon prices aren't low. You tack on $300-$500 for the smaller lenses (for each purchase) and several hundreds for the larger lenses (for example the 300 2.8 IS is 4100.00 and the 300 2.8 VR is 4999.99) it just adds up.

I figured it out when I switched over and sold all my gear, it cost me $3200 in monies lost to switch. Admittedly I was selling used gear and bought mostly new (my cameras were used but the other stuff was new) but still. Back then it was quite a chunk. As it stands now, I couldn't afford to do it if I was thinking about it. AND I didn't get the 300 2.8 that I used to have because I couldn't afford it.

I know it sounds like I'm unhappy but I'm not. I like my gear. But I saw that someone here was contemplating the switch and I just wanted to point out that there is an incredible price difference when shooting nikon.

I'm sure glad Jake worked things out with Canon. I fully intended to switch if they didn't, and I shudder to think what my state of mind would be now if I had.

Things works out. We're all happy with our gear, and as Martha would say, "That's a good thing." I can think of nothing more fruitless than spending any amount of time coveting an brand of gear. It usually doesn't make economic sense, and patience is generally rewarded with your brand bringing out something cooler than everyone else.

It just goes in cycles.

Even if I won the Powerball jackpot, I wouldn't be switching. As long as Noinks work backwards...they are useless to me.

The folks in TX are asking that we box up all our surplus rain and ship it to them.

I think they got it... We got a video from Bobert this morning of him driving in pouring rain.

From what has been said...he could stand to drive in that rain for about 40 days to get levels back to where they belong.

I'll drink to that. I wonder when Obama is having his next get-together on the Whitehouse lawn.

Heh! I just told someone who was voicing a problem on a thread that if my answer wasn't right I was going to go have a beer and wait for inspiration. You have provided the confirmation! Woohoo:)!

Nice, I am not a pilsner fan, but to each his own. This is a Blonde ale from a local brew pub.
