I'm looking at picking up a EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS before the rebate ends.

So I'm crunching the numbers. I've found the lens on ebay for $979.95 + $16.00 S&H
This price already reflects the Canon Instant Rebate.

Bing eBay Cashback = 8%, So $78.40 cashback.
Plus eBay Bucks you get = $19.60 eBay Bucks.

So final cost = $979.95 - 78.40 - 19.60 = $881.95 + Shipping.

Thats a NICE Price.

Got 9 days to pull the triggers boys... the Canon Rebates expire on the 11th.

Where did you find the $979.95? Last time i checked, Beach Camera had it for $949.95 and they're pretty reputable.

If i didn't have so much other stuff i wanted, i would pick up another one at that price.

Newegg has them for $979.99 with free shipping. I don't do ebay for purchases over $500 unless I know the seller. It just ain't worth it.

Best price on ebay right now that takes Buy It Now, which you must use in order to qualify for the BING eBay Cashback of 8%. And you must pay with PayPal.

I've never had problems with either PayPal or MS Cashbacks so I'm psyched.

Last year I got like $450 in cashbacks. Got every one of em too.

Beach had a $949.xx auction a couple days ago. If they come up again and they qualify I'll buy it from them. I got a lens from them a while back and they were very good in the customer service department. If I can get it for $950 the final price is even better.
Probably about $865 final price + shipping.

Or just find a used lens on eBay from a reputable seller, you still get the Bing cashback and eBay bucks...just my opinion

You're right, they must have sold that 17-55 then. Either way i would not mind buying a major item from Beach Camera through ebay, i've had good experiences with them. What's great about Beach is that their cashbacks are instant too. Can use it immediately for another purchase haha.

I'm in the same boat, i'm waiting for the 70-200mm 4 IS to show up again for $1025 at Beach. Hopefully before the 11th or i'll have to get something else.

This particular lens has a BAD reputation for its IS unit, which has a high-rate of failure.

For that, I want a NEW lens, so I have at least 1 year of Warranty to fall back on. A used lens (out of warranty) fails, you get hit with a service bill. Any money you saved by buying used (which isn't generally that much anyways on this lens) will be lost on the repair.

I want a new one. I wouldn't recommend buying this lens used unless you get a stellar deal.

Just going off my own personal experience. I have not bought a new lens yet. Everything has been used off of eBay or here. I have had 1 lens with a problem that I bought on here, and the seller was great. Sent the lens back, refunded my money, no problems what so ever.
