New lens date code

So, after selling my 300 f/4, I ordered the 400mm prime lens and I understand the date code supposed to be starting with a W for 2008 make, and/or X for 2009. What else should I look out for when picking it up?
The lens should be here, in town any day now and I'll go in to pick it up at a local store. Thanks
