viewer discretion advised, it is a 50 cent video after all

anyone else think it was filmed with a 5Dmk2? the focus going from him to one of the guys in the background (at 2:03) is a bit fast, and hard to pull off manually, but if they did a few takes i'm sure the cameraman could get it down. its definitely doable. and in the rest of the video, he weaves in and out of focus. in any case, i think the depth of field is a bit too thin to be from a camcorder. and the bokeh character in shots like 0:13...the elliptical highlights in the background, those are pretty characteristic of shots i get from my widest aperture primes and not really anything i've seen from camcorders.

I had a local-ish band comment me on myspace with a video for their latest song. I felt like you do, with characteristics of DSLR lenses so I was going to comment the band and ask. Instead, I found out who produced the video and the company who did it had a page about the employees. The one who had worked on the video was into photography as well and it mentioned that he's looking to expand his portfolio with his new 5D Mark II! I was actually surprised that I was able to spot it correctly.

I wouldn't be surprised. It definitely has the feel and look that i've seen from other 5d vids. What I notice is the motion in the video seems different (probably b/c of 30fps instead of 24) and that the movements aren't as smooth (since it is not a camcorder). It seems like they didn't put much production into this video...

My God, that is the most horrible "music" I have ever heard. People actually like that?

I just muted and watched the video, it was interesting to see the focus system work and the bokeh and seperation of background and subject.

I suck at Photoshop.

Take a good look at that video, guys, watch the commercials after it...they're not selling the music, they're selling the hypnotic beat and the brand. Those guys are mainstream hip hop musicians. They are business people. They're not selling their music they are selling their lifestyle; the glitter, the girls, the guys, the look, the body-builder physique.

Engineered music. It's all marketing. If you watch close enough; look at their clothes. They're getting endorsements for advertising brands like Nike, Coca cola, Kokanee, Bud beer, sketchers, cigars, Lamborghini..a marketing nightmare to the extreme which targets kids and teenagers..which are one of the largest disposal income drains markets in the world.

That said I am a big supporter of non-mainstream hip hop and dance culture. That "music" is all a marketing scheme.

That video isn't actually too bad, nor the song.

And I think you're right about the 5D mark II..and someone that doesn't know how to use DOF properly  I can't believe that quality is allowed for being published come to think of it

That's the point indeed ;) But all right...

The video is poorly captured, IMO. Way too much of the narrowing and widening of the aperture...I mean what is that? It's not even artistic it's done so poorly.

that video has the same feel then the Video Vincent Laforet (external link)did, so I think its very plausible it was done with the 5D MkII.
