Melanistic? chickadee

I've seen this fella hanging around the feeder lately. There were reports of a melanistic chickadee in my area last year but I'm not sure if this is the same bird.

I don't think he has a melanin problem... I believe the darkness in his feathers is due to molt at this time of the year, but I always preface, "I could be wrong"... cute little guy.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about that. I did see him earlier in the spring and he had the same darkness on the underside. He does look kind of "unkempt" though consistent with molting.

He's probably molting. Leukistic would mean he has white feathers where some other color should be. It's harmless to the bird, not at all like albinism.
