There's a rebel CSI? Man, that show just can't stop making spin offs. But yeah, Canon uses .cr2 for everything.

Yes and no. They are all called CR2 (and have been since the 20D, before that CRW) but not all CR2s are the same. In fact every model has its own variation on the theme and all the software has to be updated every time a new model appears.

^ Are they downward compatible? I need to do an experiment. I just updated my software for the latest rev of the firmware on my 50D. I need to take some RAW shots with my daughter's XTi, and see if there are issues.

Also wondering if I send some RAW files to my friend who shoots Nikon (and uses Photoshop), I assume he will be able to read my RAW files as long as he has the latest Adobe Camera Raw loaded??

I have CS3/latest version of ACR, and I had no problems reading raws from my old Pentax *ist DS (sold to a friend, he second shot at a gig for me). I bought the camera back in October 2005 :)

Shouldn't be a problem....

That was the best thing about figuring out a workflow with CS3/ACR/Bridge when I shot Pentax (K10D at the time), when I went to a 40D, I really didn't have to change anything :)
