ymmmm I just roasted some Ethiopian Yrgacheffe.

Oh goodness, bless you. :D

gosh it smells good. I think I like roasting coffee for the smell almost as much as I like drinking it.

btw...my last roast of Kona....magnifique!! :)

Sounds great Lisa, not much practice needed at all, it seems.

It's not that difficult if you've had the proper training. And I, as you may surmise, am a black belt when it comes to lemon meringue pie.

Looks like the dislodging of the Snake last night caused a catastrophic change in pressure sucking everyone through into the night world.

Some Mississippi River boids from Sunday:

Yeah...I have that effect of the environment. :p

Nice shots of the river birds...like the pelican.

A flower for your morning. It didn't come out the way I wanted (darned wind).

But I kind of liked it.
It gave me a bit of a burned right eye for a couple of minutes afterward...

Now that is cool Pete. I like it...even if it did not come out the way you wanted it to.

Woke up to Kona having shredded Dan's charts (from his coast guard days). It was hard to break it to him. They were stored behind a cabinet...I have no idea how Kona got them out.

What a total bummer!

it's 50% off for a smugmug pro account.

Too bad it's only on new accounts.

I talked to the wife about getting more involved in selling shots. It appears that I may have a tiny market in family/portrait shots or just family functions I attend with my family and friends....wife wants me to start charging for time with them. Especially with family functions, I always get calls to give them photos emailed so they can print them....and I usually decline or only provide a select few without watermarks. Though...I am so reluctant in doing so....family keep calling me to take shots for my cousins' birthdays so they can get a good quality 16x20 to display at their reception. I had to decline taking some shots Sunday because I didn't think there would be enough time to shoot, process and print a 16x20 by this Saturday...such is life.

A PUDDLE PONDER
Before my oral surgery on Friday, I have to premedicate on an antibiotic beginning 2 days before. Just went and had the prescription filled to begin tomorrow morning. Of course it came with one of those sheets that tell you every single side effect and precaution, etc., etc., etc. Upon reading it all the way through the last sentence reads:

Information Expires August 26, 2009

So what happens to the information on August 27, 2009? If I get any of the side effects after mid-night on the 26th are they void and nil? Can I take different dosage at 00:00:01 on the 27th? Am I to contact someone entirely different in case of "accidental" overdose?

Wife says that it is when the info gets reviewed by the FDA or the drug company for accuracy or updates. She mentioned that they could add new side effects like growing a third eye, arms falling off, developing Nikon lust...you know, stuff like that.

"that must be girl-talk for "been there...done that"

OMG!! How cute she got in the water! LMAO @ the nose dive in the water.

Oh, I wish! The mother's in my area seem to think my cafe is a replacement for the park. Which it is NOT.
There's juice and goldfish flying everywhere! Ugh. I'm hoping maybe the family I nanny for will let me take some shots of their son! He's a total Gerber baby.

It always bothered me seeing parents who did not pick up after their children at a restaurant....and leave a huge mess. When my son was a wee one, we never let him leave a mess on or under a table.

So, I registered for a one week intensive photography course in Vancouver (jump start course basically) at the end of August and last time I checked, I was the only person registered.

I'm thinking I might end up not going. I would be really upset. But I'm thinking, if this were the case, would anyone here reccomend the NYIP course? I'm sure there's 29077035 threads on it already, but just wondering. Hmmmm.

Like others mentioned, you can learn lots poking around here and other photo sites....though I think NYIP is too much money for a mail/internet learning.

oh definitely. and I understand that. I honestly don't even want to be a second-shooter or ANYTHING. I just want to almost kind of shadow? I'll even do all the b**ch work. I just wanna be around it.

I just LMAO when I saw that.

Seriously though, don't give up....I am sure there is someone out there nice enough to let you shadow. Heck, a one time regular here got that chance with a sports shooter last year.

So I found out today that my Gram broke her foot on Monday. Lied to my sister as to why her cleaning lady was taking her to the doc, and didn't tell my father till today. This is the woman who had a stroke 8ish years ago, can barely care for herself and refuses to go into a nursing home. Poor Dad. I'm LIVID with her, but it doesn't pay, cuz she doesn't remember anyway.

Sorry to hear Diane.

LOL!! actually I'm on my 7th roast so far (I'm roasting small amounts...5 & 6 oz) but I've pretty much found what 1st and 2nd crack are on my machine. Now I'm learning the machine's profiles. I've been reading all day trying to find out what beans are hard/soft...and which profiles to use. It's taking a bit of research but I can't say when I've enjoyed myself more.

One thing I read about roasting coffee before I started "even the worst home roasted is better than store bought (not including coffee shops that roast their own)" and so far I'm finding all my mistakes (less one) very palatable indeed. It's fun and tasty...what more could one want :D

HARM very nice job on those! *waves*

LOL! No...it's all still in the experimental stages, but I'm making copious notes.

Speaking of notes...JIM if you decide to go ahead with home roasting, I have a free program for coffee geeks that helps one keep accurate notes on individual roasts, times, weights etc...
