Congrats. It is still my favorite lens.

Wow, considering all the lenses you have and have had, that's high praise for the brick!!! A few times, I've been tempted to sell my 24-105 and get one. About a year ago, Scott and I traded my 24-105 for his brick for the weekend. I liked it a lot.

I have both (24-70 and 24-105), but I just trust the brick more. To me, the wider aperture is more valuable than Image Stabilization. YMMV.

Happy Birthday John!! (JSolie)

How're things on your side of the mountains?

Thanks! Things are going okay...the boys got back from summer camp yesterday, and things are just about at their normal decibel level. My youngest found his book of Star Wars sheet music and has been regaling me with all sorts of different pieces...I'm rather partial to Yoda's theme today for some reason.

Happy Birthday, the other John! (For some reason this one wasn't in my database. I gotta go add that now...)

Thanks, Lonnie! :)

Mine didn't. Sold the (practically unused) 24-105 to Riley. He got more use of it in his first 2 weeks than I did the whole time I had it. For that matter, I'm still trying to find any photos I actually took with it, although I know here are some, somewhere.I'm all for the Brick!

Oh, and Dan - there actually is some decent beer (ale) in St. Louis. Just not from the company that bottles the fermented rice and horse byproduct "beverage". Even Ann, who's not a beer drinker, enjoyed the stuff from St. Louis Brewery (external link). I've been known to (back when you could) carry a 6-pack or so home from a business trip there. "Missouri: We do brew real beer here - but it's our best-kept secret!"

G'MAE all, picked up a leather club chair this afternoon, its in excellent shape and I'm thrilled to pieces. It should work for males and females, especially h.s. seniors and newborns. :D Pics later, when I get them uploaded.

Cool on the chair.

IL: Still a little sore at Mrs. O'Leary's cow.

Ah, but the anger had distinct differences, in the State of Chicago because she didn't vote more than once. In the State of Illinois, because she didn't kick it hard enough to burn down the entire State of Chicago.;)

Here is the thing, since Curt got the 1D Mark III he has taken over the Tamron 28-75 because the 17-50 causes vignetting, leaving me without a walk about lens. So I told him this morning I would like to get the 24-70 ordered so I will have it next Saturday when the photo club tours Chicago aka The State of...see above. Much to my surprise the only thing he said, "Does it come with a lens hood?". :D

The wide end and the f/2.8 will work well in the theatre also. f/4 is too slow for movement on stage, I wouldn't be able to get a fast enough shutter in most cases. Glad to hear your comparrison, Dan, with our L experience, we're confident it is worth the extra expense. And we will agree with you, both our Tamron's have performed superbly no complaints, well there was the Err99 we got on the 28-75, but Tamron fixed it and has worked flawlessly since.

If anyone is interested, here is our itinerary for Saturday, subject to a moments change depending on the weather and interest at any given venue:

  • University Club of Chicago

  1. Chicago Cultural Center
  • Lower Wacker Drive-view of city looking west down Chicago River with Chicago Spire foundation in foreground

  • Adler Planetarium grounds- view of Chicago skyline to the Northwest.

  • University of Chicago Campus
·Rockefeller Chapel
·Robie House(Frank Lloyd Wright)-one block from Chapel
·Lorado Taft sculpture-“The Fountain of Time” -west end of campus

    • Rooftop access to 50 story building: people-friendly, safe vantage for spectacular lake and city views
7. Photo Club Members Condo-casual lunch

8. Elks Veterans Memorial
(built 1926-beautiful interiors)

9.Visit Catherine Edelman Gallery

10.Visit Stephen Daiter Gallery

11.Time permitting, corner of Kinzie and Canal-great city views looking east, down Chicago River

12.Time permitting, northwest corner of State and Wacker bridge-unique views of Carbon and CarbideBuilding, StandardOilBuilding, LincolnTower and others

13.Home
