I'd go with the singular, "couple" is a singular noun. Or you could just rewrite the sentence to bypass the issue: "Every couple will experience at least one moment when time stands still" or something . . .

How about: There's a moment in every couple's union when time stands still.

Or, something like that, anyway. Maybe "life/lives" isn't the correct word to be using in this case.

I think I'll do that. Thanks Jon.

G'morning.

I need some help. I'm not usually at a loss where grammar is concerned but I am today.

In the sentence (or rather the beginning of the sentence) "There's a moment in every couple's (life or lives) when time stands still." I'm trying to figure out if it's "life", since "couple" is a singular entity? Or "lives" because they are two people in the unit? I'm almost positive it's singular but it looks better plural.

Does anyone here know for sure?

Oh you're up! I guess I should emerge from my room.

I don't know about singular or plural. I'm having the same 'dunno' as you are.

Did you make coffee? ;)

Thanks Lonnie too :)

I think re-writing it is best. Since I don't like how it looks singular

Pretty horse Zane. 'Flea bitten gray' doesn't sound like a flattering name for a color type, thanks for the definition.

No it is kind of disturbing. Some flea bitten horses have really reddish spots that look like blood, hence the name.

So can you jump up on them from behind? Myself and daughter can run up behind the horse and launch into the saddle.:D

I am 4'6" tall, only 3 inches taller than you. No way am I leaping up on any horse butts. Especially Bob's 16-2 hand butt. He is not giant but he has some long legs. They would tolerate it with a little work but I suspect the first time someone leaped on them they would not just stand there  I can mount all my horses from the ground though, just not leaping cow girl style. You ought get some pictures of your daughter jumping up. Have her wear the boots and shorts :D

It was good thanks....the Beach Boys held a free concert in town, so we went to that, and then just lazed at the pool yesterday :)

They are so much fun in concert. I have seen them at least 6 times, all free concerts. They used to play on the 4th of July, down on the mall every year when I was growing up.

No and I can't reach Leyla who is great at that stuff. Lives sounds correct but Life makes sense. If you added "together" it might be good. "There's a moment in every couple's life together when time stands still."

I'd say "lives", Lisa. Even though you're talking about one entity, there are two lives in every couple, which pluralises it.

Grammatically correct would be life.

Common (grammatically incorrect) usage would be lives. ;)

or you could rewrite a little....there's a moment in the life of every couple when times stands still.

Ew ew ew! Sorry, but that's so much worse! And it even includes one of my biggest pet peeves! You don't pluralize a word by inserting an apostrophe! Ew ew ew!!!

Crissa and Zane, I've enjoyed the shots you have been posting. I don't remember if I commented on them last night or not.
