It's a no-win for both the rescue group and the dog. If a rescue group is operating a government shelter under contract, they've got even less flexibility than we, as an independent group, do, since the county/city has their own rules. We can actually consider if the household already has one or more Pekes or similar temperament dogs, or has recent experience with them. But "Ooooh, we want to adopt one because they're so cuuuute!" when you have toddlers to 1st grade kids and no idea what you're getting into is a killer. If you have little kids and no dog experience, - look for a nice, goofy Lab or similar dog that's 5 or more years old, so safely past the puppy energy levels. Better for both the kids and the dog. I could easily do my job from home only coming into the office once or twice a week. Unfortunatly I work for an old school gent who seems to believe that one can not work from home and prefers to have his peeps nearby. Not sure why, but call me JJ.
