5DMKII auto iso is a joke

Anyone purchasing the 5D2 for the Auto iso will sadly be a very regretfull decision. The 5D drops your shutter speed so slow that even the steadiest of hands guarantees a motion blur.

And for people saying they are always on manual and pick there exact iso.....

Sometimes you just want to hand the camera to a novice or shoot without a care and a simple cf function to pick a higher iso rather than slower shutter speed would be a no-brainer to add on the next firmeware update... CANON.

Or - use it properly, as you would Av or Tv...with conscious decision.

Without wanting to antagonize you - it sounds like the problem is actually you, not the camera. You claim 'it drops your shutter speed to low'. That is not a camera function problem, but a combination of your light and setting choices. If you would care to show examples, help can be provided.

I had the 50D and found Auto ISO useful, but like the OP, wish the implementation is more user adjustable. I believe the 50D picked the minimum shutter speed using the 1/(focal length * 1.6) rule of thumb so that it can maintain the lowest ISO possible.

Sometimes though, I want a faster shutter speed and will sacrifice ISO for it. So maybe user options to set a minimum shutter speed, or adjustments like 1/(2*FL), 1/(3*FL), etc...

I've heard Nikon has a better auto ISO implementation, but don't know what they do.

If you have the 5D2 you would know the problem. I don't have any shots because they are immediately deleted from camera when I see the shutter speed.

Anyone using auto iso is most likely in the new stages of photography anyways so it would be nice for canon to bump it up just a 1/10th would work.

Such an easy fix on canons end.

Hey, even the 1D's have Av and Tv, so they must be useful...

to slow how? it worked fine on mine when I had it, works fine on my 40D as well

did you read the manual because it tells you the settings that are possible for each mode there

That story is getting old. Who buys a pro camera and doesn't use manual everything including manual focus and blah blah. These cameras are meant to let us be creative and not fiddle with a million features (yet let us fiddle when we really need it).

I also find the auto ISO to be quite annoying, for some reason it wont go up past ISO 3200

and yes i agree, having to set the ISO manually is a bit of a pain when pics are "on the go" or the camera is being handled buy another person other than yourself

Simply put, Canon isnt expecting novice users with limited knowledge of how cameras work to buy their pro end cameras. Maybe check out a camera in the Rebel line, they are fantastic in auto modes and much cheaper!

Well, yes. Anybody purchasing a camera specifically for auto ISO should really be looking at a £50 point and shoot.

Why include an Auto ISO if you can't control it and do not knock the Rebel line. They can produce just as fine as images as the 5D 5D2 since I had previously owned the rebel XSI

Sometimes I'd like to just control the Aperture and let the camera take care of the rest and "possibly" hand the camera over to a novice to take our picture.
