*slap on wristies

sorry, that was supposed to be a tongue in cheek take on the wording of the OP, no offence intended towards enginyr.

Auto ISO is a feature I thought I'd never use. Since getting a camera that features it, I rarely have used it but actually I'm glad it's there, it can help in quick shot situations. But when everything is in auto mode, you're trusting the camera to decide shutter speed, aperture and ISO. That's too many variables to leave to a preprogrammed chip. That's what P&Ss do and that's why most P&S photos are (technically) bad - because all of these things are decided by the camera's presets and not by the photographer that actually understands the scene.

Why include an Auto ISO if you can't control it and do not knock the Rebel line. They can produce just as fine as images as the 5D 5D2 since I had previously owned the rebel XSI

Uh. What?

I'm only here to say that the 5Dm2 is way better than rebel anything.
I'll leave now ...

Even if your not anywhere near a pro you should shoot manual.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Well if you don't know the benefits from shooting manual, go back and use your P & S.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Take your camera, switch it to auto mode, put someone in a shaded place even in the mid afternoon, take a photo and tell me what happens. I just did this today with my 40D for fun with my ISO set to 400 and it wanted to shoot at 400 f/14. The correct exposure was 125 f/8 :p

Auto modes are terrible and way off 95% of the time which is why you see a thousand "why is my 5DII or (my 24-105L) so soft? When 99.9% of the time its a user error. Pro cameras in the hands of amateurs with no clue how to use them is usually not a good mix.

i use my camera in av, tv and manual mode...i didn't realize i wasn't a pro unless i used it full time in manual.

What i don't understand is why have a AUTO ISO and then give the user the opportunity to mess with it, it would no longer be an AUTO ISO? I understand you are looking to bump it up a little bit 1/10th however you are saying its intermediate which is why you don't have samples...

In which case you will now have correct ISO intermittently and over exposed images the rest of the time.

I have the 5D2 and have used the AUTO ISO a few times just messing with it corious what the camera thinks i should use compared to what i know i want to use and i would not say it exposed incorrectly, But then again i am a non pro with a 5d2 and don't always shoot Manual only on either of my bodies so take it for what its worth :D

who buys a pro camera and shoots in auto modes?

The 5DMKII is a "pro" camera? Thought the 1D series cameras where pro cameras and the 5D and 5DMKII was basically a full frame XXD series with a few extra perks

Also just incase you are not aware, the AUTO ISO does not work in Manual mode, its defaults and stays at ISO400.

So anyone buying the Canon 5D2 to be a pro and only shoot Manual but wants to use AUTO ISO is kind of up a creek with out a paddle :D
