And the winner is............... you guys really don't make it easy do you

After a lot of racking my brain today, I have come up with the top three..........

In third is Darcy, Darsk47.... I really love the expression on this girls face, is it "are my going to make the landing or not!!!!" and the lighting for me works well with bringing out the water..... well done

In second is Gail, Flo..... with a wonderful interpretation of the subject.I don't know whether you would be shouting, screaming or in fits of laughter with this picture as a parent especially with the theme of the picture "new shoes"..... well done

First place for this comp goes to...............Chris, Kendoway......There is just so much fun going on in this picture and the items in the background, chairs, a bottle of beer, garden toys etc make this an overall picture which shows that everyone was having a real great time......... very well done

Just a few comments on the other pictures

Jason.... loved the picture but the lounger in the background and the childs face not being fully seen, so we could see the awe in what she was trying to do, just took the edge of this one for me....well done anyway

Billbo911... this reminds me of some hugely fun times I had canoeing down the Charles river near Medway MA some years ago, but I would have liked to see more around the actual canoes and think that the angle you took this at could have been lower or you may have cropped a bit too much out of the picture to get rid of the lake/river in the background.... well done

Shack...... Great colours and subject, but the camera seems to have focussed on the water and not on the ski which is a hell of a shame.... Did you have this on spot focus? good try and well done anyway

Mike, this has got to be one of the scariest things for me to even consider doing, not just caving but underwater caving... I like the picture a lot but would have liked to see the facemask of the diver coming out and not his rear end   well done

Allen.... as per usual you take a really hard subject and make a great photo out of it... well done to get such good quality through water and glass....

Tony....... Great capture of another hard subject with everything that was going on and the amount of water being splashed about......... a very close top three, well done

Jdetmold..... I really hate to say this, as white water canoeing is one hard sport to do and capture, but this picture doesn't really do anything for me and it would have been better if you had used, which I'm sure you caught, a picture of the canoeist coming down the drop with his canoe front ended in the water, or something similar to that. I must say the colours are really good with a spot on focus so very well done for that anyway :D

JLatimer......Really nice subject of a childs "first swim" but the picture seems to me to be focussed on the back of the guys head and not the child, and this and the womens "half head" really distracts me from the allover picture.... well done for trying

Ed...... Stunning..but I would have probably captioned it as "I'm forever blowing bubbles".. And probably the closest we as humans will ever get to a truly wild animal from the Artic.... well done

John.... Really nice photo with the colours of the dog, water and canoe blending superbly.... a cracker and well done

Phil.....I really like the tranquility of this photo, and presume that is was taken in Holland!!! One thing that put me off was the shore in the background not being level...... well done anyway...

Daniel.... I nearly went for a second opinion on the validity of your water sport shot  but do like this shot a lot... there is a lot of distractions in the photo with tyres and fences, and I would have crooped it slightly better with a bit more track in front of the cart, but in my opinion the distractions added to the thrill of the photo to be competing in these conditions, so close to the floor!!!! very well done...

Good job Kendoway. The whole shot just tells a story of a good day.

Congrats.

Congrats to all the winners and Chris....

If you look close its a mural (you can see a window frame if you look close) and I got lucky the light was perfect to give the fish in the forground a very 3D look thus the title Urban Scuba.

Is this is a lake?

If no, a river?

BTW. I realized my entry doesn't qualify. I didn't take my pic - I know that because I am in the photo. I guess I can't assume if it is on my camera and in my library it is my pic

Thank goodness it doesn't matter though.

thanks,
as for the crop, I voluntarily made it this way to see more of the water sprays ;)

I would have got something more of a water sport if my weekend trip to the regata of Valleyfield had not been cancelled, I was supposed to go with some friends and be in the pits with a race team, but we couldn't get a hang of our contact for the entries :(
I did the next best thing and gone to the kart racing weekend in a nearby city :) and it was in the street of the downtown, so many fences and tires for protection ;)

LOL – Please ignore post #22 above (Is this a lake?), which should have gone into the WAIN thread.
I won’t delete it, so that Monty can continue to enjoy torturing me in 2 threads simultaneously

Robuk – Gracious thanks for the award, I hardly feel like I deserve it – and thanks for the superb judging and meticulous critiques. I feel honored to have shared in this contest, which had some remarkable entries. Sterling contributions all.

Ed – I really like the Polar Bear. Tremendous photo!

I will invariably be hated for this comment, but those are some of the first children’s pictures I have ever taken. My wife and I have no kids of our own, and I typically lean towards shooting nature, travel, urban – etc, and until 2 weeks ago I probably only had a handful of children’s shots. At a neighbor's 4th of July party, the kids where enjoying the Slip N’ Slide, and it just looked like a great opportunity. Probably shot 40 photos, 35 of which were OOF because I had the Nifty 50 on, and it’s a rotten little lens for moving subjects and focusing in general. Takes great portraits though.

Again, great entries everyone!

I’ll have 107 up later this evening.

Actually the Waverunner (and it's riders) is very much in focus. At first I thought the same thing. It appears to be OOF becasue of the fine spray being thown up which covers everything back of the registration numbers. On the original photo you can nearly read the numbers on the serial# plate...which is fore of the spray.

Congrats to the winners, and nice shots all! Chris, yours was definitely a cutie! Darsk47, great capture on the expression in her face, and Gail, I loved the playfulness of the shot of the little one!

The closest I came to water sports this past week was the severe rain and thunderstorms which knocked out my DSL at the street last Wednesday and subsequently took out my router and system board on my PC. If you don't have surge protection on your modem/DSL/Cable line, a word of wisdom here... (learned the hard way) GET IT! My old UPS protected my power supply but not the rest. My DSL was back up tonight for the first time in 5 days. Now after buying a new system board, case, router, and UPS (with ethernet surge protection), I'm back up and running again! I missed my POTN!!!

I may be fascinated with volcanoes, but the name's Lisa.
