It was causing too much grief for us to do any deep sky imaging so I figured if you can't beat it, you might as well shoot it! ;)

You just can't beat those apo refractors for low-power moon shots. Great image.

Thanks!

I actually did not focus on the moon. This was a first. I hand-made a Bahtinov Focusing Mask from the template generator available if you google it. It was not a fun thing to make. But I actually used it to focus on Vega. Then turned the telescope on the moon and shot.

The Bahtinov mask is now my favorite method of obtaining perfect focus.

Nice shot and I found your focusing information useful because I printed the pattern for a Bahtinov mask several weeks ago and started cutting it out with an X-Acto knife. I never completely finished the project and was wondering whether it would be helpful. Now that I know, I need to get it completed and try it out.

You will love it!

I made it out of poster board. It was much easier to cut than cardboard. It drove my eyes batty cutting it. It was a pretty rushed cutting job too.

I actually ordered a couple of them from http://www.focus-mask.com (external link) but wanted to try this method last night so I made a fast one. It worked great.

I'm always in awe of the folks who turn out images like this.

Wonderful.
