I have about 5000 slides that I want to make digital files of. Has anyone had any experience with the Opteka HD2 Slide Copier.. I will be using it on a 40D. Any info about ease of use, quality of copies, etc:, will be appreciated..

Thanks

Dave

i might suggest you change the title to something less nebulous than "Need some help". So people will know whether to respond or not.

Maybe, "Need help with copying slides"
"Need helpwith info about Opteka HD2 Slide copier"
"Anyone experience with the Opteka HD2 Slide Copier"
etc.

Have tried the Opteka copier with a 5dmk2. I would suggest trying a bellows/macro lens/and slide duplicator setup. The cost may be higher but the results are much better - close if not better than a scanner once things are set up correctly but much faster than the scanner. You can copy a slide in 10 -15 seconds as oppossed to minutes on the scanner and if you have 4000 slides to copy you don't have that kind of time. Now the bad news - bellows for Canon EOS cameras are hard to find. You probably will have to rig up something using a hodgepodge of gear. One suggestion is a Novoflex Canon to Nikon lens adapter and then a Nikon PB-5 /PS-5 or PB-6 /PS-6 slide duplicator and bellows set up. You may also need a short extension tube for clearance between the camera body and bellows set up. This set up is a little pricy - $ 300 - 500 but will give a lot better results than the opteka and will be just as good and much faster to use than a film scanner
