Hey, this thread could be subtitled "Why you should always examine your shots at 100% for sharpness and detail"!

So, I've been trying to update recent shoots and get things posted on the Web and whatnot, so I was working today on a shoot from 10 or so days ago, a walkabout with flowers and some urban shots with the 5D Classic and the 24-105.

I came across a nice little arrangement of some kind of lilly planted behind a mailbox (Exif doesn't matter for this story):

I thought it was kind of cute and took a few shots of the flowers:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/114723014.jpg

And moved on.

Today I got to this little set and began to mess with the shots. Because of the bright sun highlights, I really didn't know if I was going to beable to do a lot with them, but I figured I'd give it a go.

After tweaking them all in Lightroom, I went to sharpening them, choosing one and zooming to 1:1 (100%), quickly hitting a setting I knew would work (about 100) without paying a lot of attention to the fine details since I could see that they were going to be sharp enough...

Until I got a close look at those fine details...please scroll down...

So, besides being funny, the moral of the story is check those fine details before you submit a shot for a prize-winning competition:):):)!

Heh! True that -- I'll have to bring a magnifying glass next outing!

Lovely texture! I wonder what species they are? I'll wager they're pretty drought resistant...

A little gausian blur and no one will be the wiser. :)

I agree this is funny, but it's disturbing for me too... You see, my stepdaughter is getting married in 3 weeks and my wife wants her to carry a fake bouquet down the aisle. (She insists it looks real.) I'm certain the photographer will get at least one flower close-up shot! :(

Well...I guess that's where the gaussian blur idea comes in!

Portraiture plugin will clean that up nicely.

They look real enough in the first few images...I'd have been fooled too.

Haha it took me a few seconds before i realised what the joke was :)

I thought it had something to do with that line hanging down off the right of the flower :)

Heh! No, I insist that that line is a genuine cobweb! That's my story and I'm sticking to it:).
