First shot is the moon getting ready to create the moonbow at Cumberland Falls, Ky and the second is my shot of the moonbow. The only other moonbow is in Africa. Great experience with the long exposure and capturing the beauty of nature. C and C welcome and appreciated.

ooh! My family has a cabin down near Lake Cumberland, the house is actually on a street that the top overlooks the South Fork of the river. I need to go back, it's been 2+ years!
This rocks, the exposure on the first seems a little dark from shooting into the sun, but the flow and lighting in the second is great, that rainbow is huge!

Same thing as a rainbow, but with a slight difference, the light comes from the moon instead of the sun. check out: http://www.atoptics.co.uk/rainbows/moonbow.htm (external link)

Beautiful shots, warrior!

Sabarika...that is actually the moon, not the sun, but it may be a tad dark. Probably could have gone with a longer exposure.

Like the shots, I've never had the opportunity to shoot one myself (was at Victoria Falls once, but only during the day :( )

Just FYI though, there are more than two locations that produce moonbows. Cumberland Falls and Victoria Falls (Zambia/Zimbabwe) are the most frequent occurrences. Lower Yosemite Falls produces moonbows regularly as well.

Beautiful shots.
They're also occassionally (albeit rarely) spotted without the aid of a waterfall...occurring in distant rain on bright moon lights.

In journalism schools they teach you to beware of "only" and "first". Lots of firsts aren't and many an only ain't.

Advaitin...only going on the info presented at the park in their manuals, but your statement is oh so true.

Didn't use the filter, and really don't have one. I do use the neutral density during some shots with too much light to get the effects I want.

Thanks for looking.

they usually only occur on the day of a full moon.... some times 1 day before and 1 day after, but generally it has to be full.
