Have been following the thread covering PIXMantra's FlexNR program and drooling over the amazing high iso results people are getting from it. Unfortunately I don't have a 1d mk3. Also, unfortunately, PIX doesn't have a version for the 450d available for purchase yet (For shame

)!
So I decided I would try to at least come up with something workable to use iso 3200 and 6400 with my lowly Rebel for the time being. Don't worry, it's not a rip-off of anyone's work--I haven't seen PIX's software and if you are expecting results similar to what people have posted from it you are going to be extremely disappointed--this is a very elementary action. Just trying to help out my fellow XSI users but if this is stepping on anyone's toes let me know. You are free to take the files and do whatever you want with them.
So, armed with my copies of Neat Image and Noise Ninja I got to work...unfortunately, you can't call Noise Ninja from an action (at least I couldn't!) so to make it work would require messing with Auto Hotkey...yuck! Also, my results from it were quite poor. So, on to Neat Image. I spent quite a long time profiling the 450d--the two profiles that are included work very well. The regular (non-shadow) profile works good for reducing noise on standard iso 1600 shots as well (use it by itself, don't use the action).
Now, what can you expect? Iso 3200 works quite well. 8x10's shouldn't be an issue. Iso 6400 is pretty bad. 4x6's look fine, above that your mileage may vary! Now, the files:

or

If someone would like to take the files and host them somewhere else you are of course free to do so.
The directions (also included in the zip):
HOW TO INSTALL
1. The .dnp files are the Neat Image profiles. Put them in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Neat Image\PROFILES directory.
2. The .nfp files are the Neat Image presets. Put them in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Neat Image\PRESETS directory.
3. Load the action in Photoshop and run it as needed.
HOW TO USE
1. Shoot in raw. Use iso 1600.
2. Under expose by 1 stop for iso 3200. Under expose by 2 stops for iso 6400.
3. Open the raw file in Digital Photo Professional. Bring up the exposure by 1 stop for 3200 or 2 stops for 6400.
4. Turn sharpening to 0 and both noise reduction sliders to 0.
5. Turn the picture style to standard and leave everything else at its default settings.
6. Convert and save the image to .jpg at maximum quality.
7. Open the image in Photoshop. Correct white balance as needed.
8. Run the action.

Well, I'm off to bed, hope this is of some use to someone out there.
