Possibly related or not.. I asked a golfing buddy of mine why there are 18 holes on a golf course.. Apparently as my friend explained, years ago when golf was in it's infancy the winner would take a dram of whisky after winning the hole.. It appears there were exactly 18 drams to the bottle.. One has to laugh at the Scot's logic..

I'm a terrible golfer and drinking "on the job" would make me worse..

Liar. Everyone knows that S-100 stuff never worked.

Next you'll be claiming you actually got a SWTPC system that worked.

;)

Well, I wouldn't go that far. I did develop fiberoptic RS-232 links back in the early 80s, though.

Make perfect sense to me, assuming, of course, that golf makes any sense at all in the first place.

I always get golf and bowling confused. I play one, but score for the other.

No, it means you'd definitely not care about the game, so you'd probably just have fun.

....I say dump the millimetres and start calling them bobs.

+1 for that! Great idea....except people who're really old and still remember Pounds, Shillings and Pence, wherein 5 pence was often called 1 "bob" (don't ask me why, I came 'just' in time to avoid that nonsense), would think their warped prayers had been answered and we'd returned to that daft monetary system.

I suppose if we bring back Guineas, we should accept Ducats, Obans and Taels too?

You're not Rowan Atkinson are you? Your obsession with the name Bob reminds me of one of his Blackadder episodes wherein a young farmer's daughter called Katherine comes to London Town looking for honest employment as a house "lad", working for Mr.B.

Blackadder: "So, what shall we call you young fella-me lad?"
Katherine: "Kate".
Blackadder: "Kate!? That's a strange name for a boy!!!"
Katherine: "Oh....it's short for, err, Bob!"

Depending what angle its looked at - 23.25mm or 2.33mm :p

As for the golf, i think the drams would make it easier although i would be pretty sober at the end - cause im hopeless at the damn game!:o

Wow, I'm gone for a few millimetres and see what happens here. Give a ninja a millimetre and he'll take a kilometre.
