Hey Guys,

New to the forum. Hope to make acquaintances with other photography enthusiasts!

I've been shooting with my Canon 40D and Sigma 10-20mm for landscape shots, but I just feel it looks too soft, especially when I compare it to other people's photos using the same combo. Could you guys take a look and tell me if it's just all in my head?

Thanks,
Chris

It *might* be you... the fireworks is a horrible example, just because it's a long exposure. The first image would really depend on where you were focusing; perhaps if you were focusing on the trees closer to the camera, you might've found better sharpness. In the third image, maybe it's the lens distortion that's throwing you off -- you'll get that on the Sigma when you're all the way in at 10mm.

What f-stop are you shooting at? I've had great success with f/8 and f/11. Here are some of my shots (in HDR) with the same lens on a Rebel XSi:

I agree, the first picture is a difficult example. I'm distracted by the dusty glass!
The second & third pics are fine to my eyes.

Canon EOS 50D gripped; Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8; ∑30mm f/1.4; ∑105mm macro; 70-200mm f/4L; 430EX II
