So I have been wanting to do something along these lines for quite some time. I've been collecting gear and finally got around to testing it out. I am using two umbrellas on stands and my two flashes (in sig). I used my 30D with the 17-55 on it and a few were shot with my 50D and 70-200 on it. I've been reading the forums and looking at tons of examples and this was my first go at it. Anyway, here are a few:

CC would be greatly appreciated but go easy on us (model and I were first timers, lol),
Nick

I like the lighting, exposure seems good. My only real comment is that you need eye contact with the model. She should either be looking at the camera, or have a reason to look elsewhere. In these she seems to be looking nowhere. She is lovely and if you would have her communicate with the camera/viewer you'd have some great shots

Thank you for your response. The eyey contact thing makes sense. I will certainly keep that in mind for the next attempt.

Nice shots! 4, 6 (though I would go with a tighter crop) and 8 are the best in my opinion. A couple of thoughts: careful of flash distance and power, there seems to be a little too much light on her face in some of the shots. Also, I would crop a little tighter on your shots, there seems to be some dead space in some of them.

I can tell it's her first time modeling, her poses and expressions are some what stiff, that also explains the lack of direct camera contact. When working with new models, I alway have a posing book for them to look at (there is one somewhere here on POTN). Though that does not always help, gettimg comfotable infront of the camera takes time, it may take a few sessions for her to really get comfortable, so keep shooting! :D

Edit: oh yeah, so when can I borrow this model?!?!? lol

Thanks for your reply! I only posted 6 pics so you like 2,4 and 6?

I will certainly work on the crops, I seem to be stuck on cropping them to maintain the orinal aspect ratio...not sure why. Flash distance was tricky for me because I am using a pc sync cable and it that was about all I had...need a longer one or pocket wizzards.

I'll certainly make sure for next time there is eye contact. It was a bit awkward for the both of us being that we were both first timers, haha.

Thanks again!

Nick

Yes, 2-4-6. I can count....really i can! lol POcket Wizards, or something simular are the way to go for this type of shoot. That will give you alot more options, plus you wont run the risk of you or the model tripping over those damn cords....cause that can get costly.

For your "First Time", I'd say you did damn well!
