Well I went out to go shoot some eagles and theyd all seem a little soft or are way too dark. I thought I had some great shots until I got home and looked at them...............needless to say, I was not happy. Here are a few, if anyone wants to try to make them look a littel better, feel free.

I like the last pic. If it is not going to be a count the feather close up then by all means get some landscape in there. Make the bird a little highlight to a great landscape shot!!!

At least you got some. Even a less then stellar pic of an eagle is way way better then most of us get. Still green with envy.

Don't wait until getting home to look at them. Check your histogram in the field. There is no reason to shoot at 1/5000 as you did in the first image. Using evaluative metering instead of spot provides better results also.

Read Jim Neigers insights which ought to help you.

Any eagle shot is a great eagle shot, the last one you posted would be great cropped and the one in the sky is awesome also..

try changing your white balance too for the weather to something warmer, brighter etc. Those typical north west coast grey clouds really make a lot of things seem dark and monochromatic in a silvery - black kind of way, especially when it is reflected by water.
Good luck and hope that helps and you get some excellent shots next time :)

Huh ? Anytime one can view a eagle it's a great experience. But to say all eagle shots are great is not saying much for the expectations that one should hold if he wants to improve his skills.

If you had more of the water (?) in the foreground image #4 it would have been nice to include it. Also try recropping placing the bird towards the right side of the frame and from the top eliminating some of the sky which adds nothing to your image.
