Guess you haven't been reading all the threads here. Many about how Canon lenses are just not as available as they used to be. Costs money to have too many lying around in the current economy.

I've been watching them at b&h...they were out of stock for a while (seemed like 2 months)...Then they came in stock for about a week, maybe less, then gone again. It's out of stock right now.

$999 new at a local store who apparently wasn't aware of canon's price raise because the lens prices haven't moved in years.

Here in Singapore, the 400mm ƒ/5.6L and 300mm ƒ/4L IS prices haven't moved since '07. The popular zooms and primes have all increased from 10% to 15% in price, though.

There was a thread about the 400mm ƒ/5.6L being 'updated' because of a lack of stocks from every US online retailer, but the general consensus was that the lens wasn't that heavy in production so Canon trimmed their production of the lens to save money, relying on spare stocks to supply the low-ish demand.

Thanks, I am in Canada, so $999- is out of question, but I got a reasonable price here, It's just not coming fast enough.
Regarding the economy, They should have more of it in stock, not less, since many folks hold off they big ticket purchases now, on the other hand I understand the rush before the price increase. I also noticed the price hike here. My Sigma 17-70 DC sells for $550- now, I got it about 3 years ago for like $400- (New)
