***UPDATE***
Just a little update to let you all know my husband fixed my monopod and head. He was able to get the screw out of the head. I bought another monopod and when I went to put my 234rc on it I noticed the screw was loose...and realized that one was reversible (had a 3/8 on the opposite side). So I got my other one out (glad I didn't throw it out) and was bummed to see it didn't have the reversible scew like the new one. My husband looked at it and noticed he was able to take the whole piece off and under was a 3/8. He popped the piece out of the 24rc and wah-la, 3/8. SO the head is on it and it's nice and sturdy. actually more comfy with it like this since the screw is bigger.
Now, I know most are laughing at me about not knowing this before. In my defense it's my first monopod, and I bought it used , there was no manual so I didn't realize you could take that piece off to use the 3/8. I must say I felt pretty stupid when my husband figured all this out for me and he doesn't even know how to use a regular old point and shoot camera half the time lol.

I have the 679B monopod and I just picked up the 234RC head. I put it on the monopod and the monopod screw broke right off and it's stuck inside the head! I heard a lot of people say they use this combo, so any suggestions as to why it didn't work for me?
I'm about to leave for a tournament game and now I have no monopod.

you can get the broken end out if you can put a small notch into it and use a flat head screwdriver

or get one of those broken screw extractor drill bits

Wow, never heard of that happening. Bogen/Manfrotto usually makes very good quality products.

Don't tighten things down as much after you get it repaired/replaced.

LOL, I didn't mean anything by it really, guess I worded it wrong. So, has it happened to others? This is my first monopod and my first head so really, I don't know.

I guess I did tighten too much, to make sure it was sturdy... but it didn't seem like it was tight , especially not enough to break off like that.

I got the screw part out of the head so I will be getting a new upgraded monopod soon.

If you got them both from the same shop take the whole lot back.

I can't imagine that screw breaking on my Gitzo, but if it did I'd be very unhappy. I trust that to hold my 5D vertical with 100-400 attached.

Good grief, makes me want to use the neck strap more when using the monopod...especially portrait!

My comment came across a but short, sorry.

Repeated over-tightening can stress the screw and lead to it eventually breaking. Its not always the final time that caused the breakage.

I said it's a good thing I didn't get it on and then put my 40D with 70-200mm 2.8 on there. ... good thing it broke before I got that far.

I had the monopod already so there is no taking it back.

Wow, that really stinks. Glad you were able to get the screw out. Does the 679B have the set screws underneath the mount like the 055XPROB?

What are you replacing it with?

That's true. I didn't use it often myself but I did buy it used....and the couple times I did use it I didn't have a head yet so I screwed it right into my tripod ring. I may have tightened too much not realizing it.
I'll be more careful with my replacement. Thanks!

i always use the neck strap with monopod, and with tripod too unless i'm doing long exposures.

once the screw starts stretching it never really feels tight again, and then it breaks.
