I am looking for a wireless way to trigger my flashes. I have been doing some research and still seem to be having difficulty figuring out exactly what I want/need. So I am asking for some guidance. I have two flashes and will soon have three. I would like the know what my best options are to trigger them. Please advise as to what would be good to use.

Thanks!
Nick

You will need a trigger for the camera and a receiver for each flash you want to fire with it.

I use Alien Bees Cybersyncs (external link). They are small and dependable with a range out to 400 feet.

Your 580EX II will connect with the supplied receiver cables. Your 430EX II will require a hot shoe attachment unit like this from Flash Zebra (external link). Again, you can use the cable that comes with the receivers.

There are other radio units that others on the forum are more familiar with such as Skyports and Pocket Wizards.

So I will want the CST and and three CSRB's correct? And the site isn't too clear, but you cleared it up that they do in fact come with cabling?

Thanks, thats exactally what I was looking for!

Yes, that's what I recommend. They are battery operated units. The cables they shipped with when I got mine were a PC to mini and a mini to mini (the mini goes to the receiver) that is generally used for the AB strobes. It is a rather more secure connection than the PC IMO. The 580EX II has a PC port but some folks have reported problems with using the supplied cable with it. You might want to add a PC screw lock to mini cable or just another unit like the one to be used with the 430EX II.

Like a PC to hotshoe adaptor like this:

Thanks again! I am going to order them right now.

Also, price aside...why did you choose these over for instance pocket wizzards?

Consistency ....For example, cheeper ebay triggers have been known to not fire the flash on occasion. I also have cybersyncs and have had no problems with them.

I definitely wasn't thinking of going any cheaper, the PW's are more money. Just want to make sure I wouldn't be missing out on an features.

I think they might have a little more range then the cybersyncs but thats not to say cybersyncs dont have plenty of range.
I did plenty of research before I decided on a wireless flash system. I decided Cybersyncs were plenty good for what I needed them for. I dont recall ever reading any bad reviews or threads here with people having issues with them. They've served me well and they get my vote.

I had purchased the original Alien Bee radio units. When the Cybersyncs came out there was an upgrade offer of full price exchange for the units I was using. It was too inexpensive to pass up.

And the PWs were far out of my price range. They are excellent units but they are physically larger and I didn't need the range they offered.

Skyports (external link) are another option. I use them with this cord (external link) to trigger any of my hotshoe flashes. They're pretty much the same features and reliability as the Cybersyncs, think there's only minor differences.

They're a little more expensive then the cybrsyncs but the charger is a nice feature.
