I'm after some help on the rules regarding property releases in the UK. I've been asked by a local gallery to take some photographs a new building in the town for sale in the shop as prints. The building is an art gallery which has a unique architectural style. Shots of a similar building in another town are already sold but if I take the photographs for sale where do I stand?

They'll be arty detail shots and perhaps whole external shots of the building taken from public ground.

Hi, my understanding is that if the shots are taken whilst on public ground no release is required. If you have to move to privately owned property to get the shot then permission of the property owner is required (for the property you are standing on).

I've recently had to look into this myself after being contracted to shoot some commercial building photography.

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Nick
