Treated myself to the 70-200 f/4L today, so paid a quick visit to the local park just before sunset.

I'm liking the lens so far - it's a lot lighter than I thought it would be. Most of these were taken ISO400-1600, so sorry about the grain - the light was getting very low.

Cute. I just tried one of these in the yard and found out how fast they really are....The kit lens just wouldn't cut it. Oh for a long L. Who am I kidding, oh for a long lens.

Great detail. Congrats on the lens. ;) Well, everybody already knows the performance of a 70-200L.

Man, those L lenses sure produce some x-tra quality.
Nice shots too! Grain is exceptable i think.

Thanks for the comments - I'm also like the bokeh on this lens - the foreground really stands out nicely.

Having looked a little more closely at the photos, I think I need to pay more attention to my focusing on future photos. DOF is pretty unforgiving at f/4 with this focal length. Hopefully I'll get a nice day tomorrow to do some more shooting!

No.2 is a cracker of a shot! I wish someone would sneak a few squirrels into the Channel Islands, I'm getting fed up with cows, rabbits & seagulls :)

Hi Pete, good pics. What was focal the focal distance on these? I know that they were taken at 200mm, just curious as to how far away they were.

The first three were very close - maybe 5 or 6 feet - this little fella was very tame. There were loads running around but this one was quite happy to sit and pose. The one on the tree was a little more skittish, but probably not much further away.

My next challenge is going to be getting a fox on film. There's literally hundreds around here, but you rarely see them in daylight. I think there's one living behind our garages - sometimes catch it coming out there.
