After grabbing a near new 5D MK I, I am stonrgly considering a 1D Mark II for an out of pocket price of 350 ( after selling 30D, selling guitar ).

I know that the 30D is trumped in most features, my two questions for those who have had hands on:

1) How does the IQ compare?
2) How does higher ISO's images look between the two?

Thanks!

I have both, plus a MKIII. The 5D images are better than the MKIIN in terms of both IQ and noise. You could use higher ISO settings on the5D. If you pair the 5D and MKIIN you may find it difficult to decide which to carry on a photoshoot. The 5D was used for portraits, landscapes and macro. For me, the MKIIN always won when I was shooting with the telephoto because it was easier to hand-hold without vibration and always locked-on and held focus. . In other words: more keepers with MKIIN. It will definitely win on tracking moving objects.

OP: In my opinion the only real advantage that the 30D could have over the 1D mark II is that the batteries are a bit more convenient, it weighs less, and some would argue that its user interface is better designed.

Other than that the IIN meets or beats out the 30D in basically every category.

The high-ISO performance is only a titch better, in my opinion it's a bit more film like, but there isn't a major step up between the cameras.

Don't have a 1D, yet, but since you mentioned live band shooting.... I don't know if you have you used it in that capacity but, to me, it lacks nothing for that type of shooting.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Not yet....I was thinking about the focusing in low light with 5d..perhpas it's not worth the upgrade.

The 5D, center point, is more accurate than my 40D ever was. Very reliable. I use center point, AI Servo to shoot live stage events. The outer points on the 5D, in low light can be a problem.
