OMG, I wish Canon would wake up and come out with upgrades that can compete with this...

1) We don't know it's real. Still a 'rumor', remember?

2) What upgrade there are you exactly envious about?

3) We don't know what Canon is upto. They're clearly going to respond and there's nothing to suggest it won't compete well with the new Nikons on that page.

My theory is Canon is waiting for Nikon to officially announce and launch the D300s and then they're going to drop the 60D which is going to pack -something- that makes Nikon look stupid for merely reheating the D300 with some video flare...[Dont get me wrong, the D300 is a great camera :)]

I felt the 50D was a kneejerk to the D300, I feel Canon made the 50D just to get something out there that seemed a bit better than the D300 in some way and also to mass produce the 15mp sensor and improve it as well as reduce its cost

As for the lenses, a lot of it sounds great i admit, but I still have faith they wont hold their advantage much longer

A lot of the lenses seem to be just counters to things Canon has had for years, I do expect they will probably optically be better than Canon's stuff...but keep in mind Canon's lenses are a bit older and have been on the market longer, I'm very very sure Canon has Mk2s of most of them either waiting for launch or in the design stages

also ill note certain lenses...like the 14-28...seriously made me question it...the 14-28 has a filter thread for one [Something i am fairly sure is impossible on a FF lens, and a 14-28 DX lens with those specs would likely not be competetive..at all]

Also i dont know if Nikon would move to 82mm filters...it would be interesting if they do [It would allow them to combat vignetting and improve corner sharpness in theory] but it would also turn off a lot of pros with investments in 77mm filters..

Anyways, I dont know if its that theres anything "compelling" besides the fact for many people, the only reason they're sticking with Canon is a lens or two Nikon doesnt offer, For me its the 100-400, thats the reason I stay Canon..so that 120-450 definately caught my eye

If the 60D disappoints and the 120-450 VR Nikkor indeed comes and comes in for a decent price, I dont know what I might do to be honest :( I love Canon's glass but I feel forced to get a 1D Mark III to get the few things i really want in a new camera body [And even then i have a hangup or two] I admit i have a lot of hope invested in the 60D...

But for now this is all speculation, and im just going to sit tight and wait...Not like my equipment is depreciating any more :)

Looks like second position is going to have to be good enough for Canon for a while longer.

Somehow I doubt Nikon will release all that in 2009, and then release 9 new lenses and at least 3 professional bodies in 2010. Both Canon and Nikon seem to typically average 3-4 lenses per year, and 1-2 professional bodies. And why would they switch to 61 pt AF? Is 51 pt not enough? I think they would more likely increase the number of cross-type points and improve the focus speed and accuracy, similar to how the Canon 45 pt system has evolved over the past 12 years.

13 lenses and 6 bodies in 18 months seems a little unbelievable to me... I guess we'll see if this product schedule is accurate soon; like next month.

^ +1. IMO, too optimistic. Especially in times of global economic crisis.

LOL `61 af points`
as if THAT makes a difference...and the d700x based on there looks like it will cannibalize the d3x

Of course it will--heck, that's always what happens. Even the D70 was better than the D1x when it came out. It would just be foolish for them not to come out with a high-res D700.

I'd love many of those lenses, but I'm wary. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Apparently announcements are coming late this month and early next month.

Hey Puggles, sounding good so far!

Not quite. There was no mention of the new 18-200 VR in the roadmap, and the D3000 specs are off.

Next month Nikon are going to bring out a camera with every feature possible in a camera making it so all you have to do is buy one camera and you're done.

1 year nearly everyone in the world will have a Nikon and Nikon will rule the world, because they're secretly stealing souls with the cameras (I KNEW those stone age tribesmen were onto something  ).

The only people left to fight back will be stubborn Canon users on POTN.

That's my roadmap! Has about as much chance of being correct as this one... especially since it already seems to be going off the side with the new announcements.

:p
