May 21, 2018 15:10 | #2315 Working on getting better at scanning color myself. Portra is coming out fine, but Agfa Vista is killing me. Tried to get the color balance as best as possible but there's definitely room for improvement. Nikon FM2n - Nikon 50mm Ai - Agfa Vista 200 - Epson V550 What are you using to examine negatives? I am thinking of getting a USB digital microscope for the job, my back huched over a lightbox with a loupe was OK when I was younger but my back is a mess now.

The most I do as far as examining them goes is hold them up to the ceiling light and see if any of the photos on the strip are worth scanning. I use an Epson V550 currently which can hold up to 12 negatives at a time and has a very short preview scan time which is where I fully decide which ones to scan. If my scanner could only hold a single negative then I would probably invest in some sort of light table to examine them. Gear: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18556308

Canonuser123 Goldmember More info | I have a Konica Minolta Dimage 5400 II, it scans up to 6 negatives at a time but it can take awhile to scan. I have an Epson V700 but I don’t like it for small negatives, they claim it can scan 6400 dpi but the 5400 dpi scans out of my film scanner are much sharper. I think anything past 4000 dpi with my scanner is just making the files bigger.

I have a Plustek 8100 which blows away the Epson in scan quality but it got something on the scanning glass which leaves a huge line across all of my scans. I also didn't care for the color reproduction of it, though I believe that might be partly from Silverfast that comes with it. Epson scan is my favorite of scanning software but it obviously doesn't work for the Plustek. Gear: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18556308

I'm sure if I sit down with it longer I'll be able to figure it out. Once my Plustek gets cleaned I'll probably give it another shot. Gear: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18556308

This was an old roll that I originally sent to The FIND Lab, but I used to it to practice scanning color myself and I liked how it came out for the most part.
