This Polaroid photo was taken in late 1967. My dad loved to go fishing for Piling Perch. Evidently, he didn't have a good day that day. That's my Austin Healy Sprite next to him that I bought just after I got out of the Navy in June of '67. The green barrel B-B-Q next to the trailer in the back I still have and use to this day. It was several years old then.

And yes, in case you noticed, dad lost part of his left ring finger in a job-related accident many years before.

This is really nice Gene. The colors look particularly fresh and strong. Did you do some color restoration work in post? As I recall polaroids of this era had a sponge in a tube that applied a clear "nail polish" to the print for preservation purposes. I wonder if this was used on this photo.

Thanks. Most of the work was done in Silverfast. I just upgraded from SilverFast SE Plus Version 8 to SilverFast Ai Studio Version 9. So far, I'm very pleased with how well it works but there is a bit of a learning curve to figure things out. I did do some post-editing in PS as well. I believe I shot this photo with my dad's Polaroid SX-70. He used stiff backings on these which prevents curling. I don't think my dad ever used the sponge to coat the images, at least not that I recall.

Here's one more polaroid I just finished cleaning up. This was taken of me with my parents late in the afternoon at my wife's parent's house in February of 1968. They had a small reception there a couple of weeks after my wife and were married in Las Vegas. It's a rare photo since it's one of the few of me as an adult without a beard. :-)

Very cool. Those photos cleaned up nice! I briefly looked into Silverfast & Neg Lab Pro but thought I'd try the software that came with the scanner first.

SX-70 film did not require the coating. Many of the earlier films did. I had a Polaroid Swinger in high school. Each roll of film came with the sponge thing coater.

More of the roll from yesterday, went to the top of parking garage for a different view of the Eiseman building and kept walking past this valve. The marks are watermarks from developing. Like an idiot, after taking special care to rinse with distilled water to avoid them I unconsciously put the tank under running water after taking of the lid.

Looks like a great place for a pinhole camera.

I was just looking at a 4x5 pinhole today!! Especially once I found out Ilford sales 4x5 sheets of paper that is a positive image without developing. $30 for 25 sheets isn't bad once someone gets the hang of it, I imagine it would be pricey at first as you learn as you go.

I have a few 4 x 5 negatives from the days when I used to own a Speed Graphic. I can scan only a part of one at a time but there is enough overlap that I can stitch them together using Photoshop. I get so tempted to get the Epson 850. Maybe someday I'll splurge.

I've also been tempted to get a Holga 120 WPC 6 x 12 Panoramic Pin Hole Camera too.

A co-worker at the paper has a Speed Graphic that he WILL NOT part with. I was looking into the Ilford positive paper so not need to deal with a negative with a 4x5, so no worries about scanning.

A 35mm film container cap will fit ALMOST perfectly over the lens of my Brownie. I’ve been thinking of drilling a 1/16 hole in a cap and giving it a try as a pinhole.

The Holga 6x12 version with the lens has been re-released if you are interested. Freestyle Photo will have more in June:

A lot of people mod those by taking the lens off and add a large format lens instead to get crisp panos in a light weight package.

Looks like fun. With the 35mm-120 adaptor this will take the place of Holga's Sprocket Rocket. I actually saw a video where someone modified a Holga to have an Instax back.
