Ok so tonight my camera was stolen out of the back of my car. The buglers smashed in my trunk window and took my camera bag with everything you see in my sig and then some. It totaled to about $1000. I am so pissed right now i dont now what to do I punched a whole through a fence. I will be calling my car insurance company tomorrow (state farm) the cops said there is a good chance they will cover the cost of my lose. I am praying that they will.

Assuming that they do cover the cost it may be time to change things up a bit. For a 1000 i can upgrade to a 40D with the 27-135 lense. Or i could get the XSI agian and get a 70-200 F4L used for about 1000. Any other ideas on a combo for 1000 or less. I shoot mostly people, sports, and commercial.

If anyone has any ideas on what i should do from here please dont be afraid to tell me.

Those thief's could have taken anything else and i would prob. just have been annoyed but taking my camera just infuriated my to no end.

I appreciate any help in the matter

Roshan

keep an eye on pawn shops, craigslist, and ebay for your gear.. it shows up in funny places.

as far as gear.you could get a used 40d and a tamron or sigma 70-200 2.8.. they are both actually really nice lenses.

doesnt hurt to just hold up on buying something right away.. and save up to get a something a little better?

Why would anyone leave Camera equipment or anything in a car for someone to steal...

If you need to leave it in a car for some reason...Put it in the trunk or completely out of sight somewhere....This is a common theft issue. Some lowlife walks by and spots something in your car...Breaks the window and runs off with it. If it wasn't visible in the first place...They would not have broken the window.
Sorry your stuff was stolen, but it`s your fault. Remember that when you replace your camera with a new one. Don`t leave it anywhere. Especially in plain sight in a car.

Your car insurance is not going to cover contents in your vehicle. Your homeowner's insurance will.

damn! Sorry to hear that! It happened to me 6 month ago too. My MBP 15" was stolen, my XTi + tamron 28-75 2.8 were stolen too. I was so pissed! but I looked at the bright side, my insurance company (farmers) covered all the stolen items and paid me back with full price (when i first bought them) plus taxes. with that money, I get 50D, 580 II, the new Macbook 13" =) I was thinking of selling all my stuff and upgrade to new stuff a month before the incident happened but when bad things happened, it does not necessary bad for us =)

I hope the fence was yours and that your insurance will cover that damage as well as the loss of your kit.

If it was me, I wouldn't bother putting in an insurance claim for a loss of $1000. The risk of rates going up, or even getting dropped down the road are too high for such a claim.

Homeowners or renters, yes. I have a valuable property provision of my renters' insurance that specifically lists all my camera gear, their serial numbers, and value.

to all of you saying it was my fault

It amazes me that we now automatically blame someone for putting temptation in the way of some low life scum.

No way should we have to expect that things will be stolen just because they can be, but a sad fact of life is that we should.

The only person who is really at fault here is the a/hole who stole the kit.

Sorry to hear about your gear mate.
You are going to be very limited to upgrade with $1000, why not save a bit, buy a late body and some decent glass.
Otherwise surf the buy/sell forum for good second hand gear.

More of the wonderful way everyone seems to find there way out of personal responsibility/accountability for anything that happens to them.....

I`m sorry, but it`s evident that the kit was visible, just by the fact that this post exists.;) Nikon D5000 FTW.....

I hear you, but there was once a time when regardless of temptation people did not steal.

I guess that the fact that the glass was smashed to facilitate the theft works as an antithesis to your QED :D
