hey all,
just wondering what numbers others are getting...

sometimes i get maybe 400 or so charges per battery with a decent amount of video use...
but what was really weird was I got 850 shots (no video) yesterday only using 25% of the full charge (camera is saying 75% remaining)...which would mean i'm on track to get 3400 shots on one charge if i don't touch the video...which is extremely strange! most i've gotten in the past is 1200 or so without any video.

this is only in reference to the canon battery, not any third parties...though it would be cool to hear third party numbers too!

I can't use all of my two batteries in a grip even after a long day shooting a wedding!

For the past few months, it has been about 600 or so frames per full charge - this is for a span of at least a week. Last weekend, spent a day shooting formula drift under the hot sun and...984 frames! with about 10 mins of VGA recording. Lens was 70-200 with occasional IS being used which I believe would factor in as well.

But... 984 was the most I've gotten yet. Original LP-E6.

My 5DII battery is good for about 800 shots before getting to the last bar. I have never been able to totally drain a battery. I don't let it go down that far, always changing to a spare so I don't lose power.

I had the battery drain completely after 1168 shots. The lens I was using had IS on all the time. The worst I had was about 350, but that was with the live view on. Stock battery for me, it generally gets 900-1000 per charge.

Longer shutter speeds take more power than shorter shutter speeds, particularly those longer than the maximum flash sync (holding the shutter and mirror longer takes more power).

Very warm days might help a bit, too.

But for a fact, the 5D2 is far more efficient than the 5D1, which is probably the most unheralded of improvements. It's so much more efficient that it's almost feasible to use AAs as a primary power source, where with the 5D1, AAs were nearly useless even as an emergency power source.

it will typically take me a month to drain the battery. In that time I shoot ~1k images. It's been that way with both canon batteries since I got the thing. Then, vacation week last week, I could only get ~800 per charge in a week, but that had a TON more sunrise shots (4 days worth) AND video so I'm thinking it had to do with a lot of longer exposures. On the same note, at the beginning of the week off we had an airshow and I easily shot 1500 shots over 2 days w/o using more than half the battery?

I've been very impressed though. I never had an issue with the 5D, but I've noticed it's even less of an issue now. :D

I extrapolated once that I was on track to get 1600 shots on one charge. That's with about 10 minutes of video and lots of IS on the 70-200 2.8. I had taken around 1350 shots with the 10 minutes of video and still reported 27% left. I was amazed.

i'm currently at 1091 with 38% remaining. somehow the leading 850 shots were taken with 75% remaining. looks like i won't hit what i extrapolated :)

thanks for the replies. definitely the battery is lasting longer than my 40D. have yet to test the generic batteries i bought in terms of shutter life...they don't report so i don't think i'll sit there and count actuations :P. they're for backup. might invest in some of the generics that i heard report to the camera.

A couple weekends ago, I got about 1,300 shots on one charge! This was with IS on all the time and plenty of chimping. I was amazed to say the least.

That's good to know, I'll keep that in mind when trying to get footage while shooting an important event. Hehe...
