i decided it was time to replace my 28-70 2.8L with something new

i got it for a good price a year ago but it had a bad a/f mechanism
i spent a couple hundred to get the whole a/f replaced by canon

its sharp at f4 and above...i just dont use it below that if possible
the only thing i didnt like about it was all tiny spots in the inner elements
all it needs is a good internal cleaning

so i replaced this:

I guess OP mentions he only uses the 28-70 at f4 or above, he could only use it outdoors without flash... But now with the 24-70, presumably sharp at f2.8, can now also be used indoors with available light?

^^^ correct

i also shoot at the beach alot
so ill be taking the older lens for those shoots and the 24-70 will be used mainly for indoor/studio type shoots

so i guess the 28-70 will not be replaced...itll just have a main purpose

And since it is already a bit dinged up it can be used outside without worry? I would just use the 24-70 all the time and sell the other one.

EDIT: That's the problem with tabs... ah ok, for taking to the beach, yeah guess it's better value to keep it then. Don't get sand in that new one ;)

Hah ! that's what I have done (but with different equipment). I now have my XT as a 'camping camera'. It goes on the more rough and tumble campouts and canoe trips along with my Tamron zoom. I would be upset if they went for a swim or a tumble down a hill, but I wouldn't burst a blood vessel like I would if the 40D did gymnastics.

Congrats! Mine arrived yesterday from B&H (ordered Friday morning, delivered Monday afternoon, can't beat that!) Haven't checked the date code, but my copy seems fine from my limited testing.

It will live on my 40D for now..Can't wait to shoot more with it!

That's what I got from it. You got a "roughin' it" lens and "sterile clean" lens. :D

In guitar land, we have the "beater" concept. For many years my beater was a Guild D25 which was actually a very nice guitar. Sold it to buy a Pentax K10D, my beater is now a Larrivee OM03R, which is also a very nice guitar, just not as "fancy" as my Santa Cruz OM/PW :)

Don't really have any "beater" camera gear....I guess my Canon A510 (slow as heck!) could be my beater.
