[I originally had these posted in the Macro section, but was kindly informed that they didn't belong there, so I hope I have more luck here :D]

I recently took a trip to Sarasota, Florida. While I was there I visited the Ringling museum, it is the old mansion and property of the people who started the Ringling Circus. The wife had a beautiful rose garden... [Not taken with a canon, borrowed someones Nikon]

I really like the Second picture.... and the First too, even though it focused on the small bud. Thank you for looking!!! :D

I prefer the 2nd one. I think it would look better if you pulled the rose in tighter.

Yeah, would be better with the rose taking up more of the picture...by a tighter crop or by moving closer when you took it. But good start though!

The 2nd photo , the rose is really sharp and focused - great shot!

In the first one, it's a little OOF (out of focus). It looks like your camera focused on the green bud / leaf just above the rose.

focus.pocus: what would you recommend for my to do to give it more "pop" ? :)

crossmax03: Yeah it definitely is focused on the bud @ the top. But I kind of liked it... i definitely like the other one more though.

Kamrie, something to learn about POTN. Not everyone is going to share your same enthusiasm for your photos. They mean something to you for whatever reason but most people wont share that. Be patient, which in this case you were but a lot of times photos will get very few comments. You do have the advantage of being an attractive young lady though, so that should help.. This is the internet after all!!

I agree.

Yes, essentially that's what it means as Grimes describes below. My impression is that both photos lack a subject due to the "wide" view. If you stood closer or zoomed in more on the rose and tried a different composition you would most likely satisfy the need for a subject and find a more pleasing composure.

A personal not on this comment. If you're going to make a comment like, "they lack pop" then take the time to suggest how she or anyone for that matter, might "add pop" to their image. Your comment does nothing to help this person improve, other than now they know their image lacks "pop". I personally try to make constructive comments that people can take value from. Unless they are already a well established and high quality photographer, then I will usually offer my praise or critique. focus.pocus, this isn't a personal attack. don't take it that way please.

Again, Kamrie, what you find pleasing, i.e. the focus on the bud, might not be interesting at all to 95% of the POTN viewers. That's something we all have to come to grips with. The question I now ask myself is, am i personally pleased with the image? If so, GREAT! I may or may not share it in the general Nature & Landscape section. If i'm not happy with it, posting it on POTN is a way for me to improve the image and my compositions.

I hope you found my replies helpful.
