How do you present 4x6 proofs from a wedding or a Portrait session.

I have thus far just done proofs online or in a binder book with 6 photos per page. I am thinking of adding 4x6 proofs as an option, but I wouldn't just want to hand over a stack of photos. I have looked online for boxes, but most of the boxes I have found are either very expensive ($50.00 or more) or are more like storage or archival boxes.

Who do you use to source boxes for nice presentation of 4x6 prints?

I put them in a purdy box I buy at a local store for about $8, but no-one's wanted 6x4" proofs in years.

I'm kind of getting that impression, but I had someone ask. I gave her the option of the included guest book in her package or the proofs, or if she wanted both it would be an extra $100 (what I charge for the guest book if ordered separately). She took the guest book.

we do 3x5s. print them. put them in pages (kind of like trading cards) and then put them in a nice binder. get them from www.pfile.com (external link)

it makes it a lot easier for people to choose the photos for the album, cause then we can lay out the proofs and see how the book flows

I get a box from the local craft store that looks nice. It's usually black and it holds 4x6's perfectly. I think last time I found it at Michael's and it was in the scrapbooking section. It's under $10. It's probably been 3 years since someone has wanted printed proofs, though, so I don't know if Michael's even carries them anymore.

Just curious, I am revamping my packages to include fewer hours of coverage (I was unlimited with all my packages and would end up shooting for 16+ hours and end up with over a thousand shots - rediculous!) Anyhow, with that being said, there was no way I could afford to print all those even at 3X5 and give them a proof book. How many hours do you guys usually shoot and how many shots do you end up with on average?

Angela,

I don't do a proof book AND 4x6 proofs, I have decided to give the client a choice of one or the other. Prior to now I have only done proof books (an 8.5x11 book with six photos per page). The photos wind up on the small side, but they're easy enough to see.

The lab I use has recently changed their pricing and I can now buy 6 4x6 prints for less than the cost of a page in a proof book. I was looking for a nice box that won't cost me $50-$100 to put them in should someone order them.

I too wind up with over 1,000 photos at every wedding I do. (I think that will be broken tomorrow night when I do a ceremony & reception that is scheduled to last only 4 hours total.) But, I choose my favorite 200 to print in proof form. ~60% of those will be Ceremony and Formal photos, ~15% will be preparation photos, ~15% will be detail photos and ~10% will be reception photos. I then put those and another 200-300 on the web for online review.
