Despite driving past "The Beast" twice a day, and living within sight for 5 years, you might be amazed to hear this is the first time I've been in the right place at the right time to show you what she does - over 200 times a year!!!

Enjoy.............and be grateful you're not as daft as me, living in the shadow of one of the world's most active volcanoes.

Whoa, Simon! Definitely not your typical landscape shots. I think I'll take my chances with the tornadoes here.

Hey Sue....how's it going?
:D

And thanks for the comment - yep, she really can be a bit fearsome.
About 100 years ago she literally "filled in" a large part of the bay with magma creating a connection to the mainland, where she used to be an island!!!!

DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!!

Thanks for the comment CDS!

If you care to look up "Mount Sakurajima" on Google, you can find a lot about the various eruptions, but honestly, only being here makes it all make sense, as the scale of the eruptions, "lava-control" routes and effect on the area just boggles the mind.

But what really blows me sideways is that Sakurajima is just the visible remains of a super-volcano that made up most of southern Kyushu!

Hey Todd!

Not all the time, but about 3~6 times a week....sometimes more, sometimes less.

Damn.. seriously. Is it loud? My only experience with a volcano was Mt. St. Helens - and I was two states away. I just remember the ash coming down and the smell.
