Hey everyone.

I am new to photogreaphy. I started out taking photos of dancers and got the photo bug. Now I want to photograph everything.

I have soooo much to learn. I start Fullerton College on August 22nd for Professional Portrait Photography. I dont think I want to be a Portrait Photographer, but I am sure they will teach me about lighting, shadows, exposure, etc... I really hate shadows from a flash. I wish I knew how to take indor shots without one.

I started a website and I hope it's ok to post the link here. I'm like a sponge if anybody has any input at all for me.

Thanks. Hope to talk to some of you soon. John

Hi and welcome to the forum!

First bit of input? Don't like flash shadows indoors? Bounce it off the ceiling or use a bracket to lift the flash high over the camera!

Welcome to POTN. It's a fine place to learn, and to hang out with fellow photographers. Even if you don't plan to be a portrait photog, the course will no doubt cover areas you WILL be able to use in whatever genre you eventually choose. Lighting is very important, and learning to deal with it, albeit in a very controlled environment, will be extremely beneficial.

Best of luck to you.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Thanks Phil, Belmondo for the inspiring words.

Phil, I thought about bouncing flash. But there has to be another trick. I mean, when the photographer in the front row of a concert takes a shot of the singer, he (or she) doesn't use a flash. But there is very little light? All of my shots come out orange when there is low light.

The camera is like a Rubix Cube to me. I swear I'm gonna beat this thing.

Shoot in RAW and then adjust to get the white balance right - I find something in the scene that should be black or white & use 'click white balance'. Use 'fast' primes that let in lots of light (like a 50mm f1.4 for example) and pump up the ISO setting on the camera.

My dad did. He just threw it against the wall. He showed it who's boss.

OP, welcome to the forums.
