uk spider

came across 6 of these today basking in the sun on rocks on some heathland,they were about thumbnail size and had what i presume are egg sacks on their behinds,some of the sacks resembled the rocks they were sitting on,a small black wasp like insect half their size landed and tried to catch them,im going to buy an insect book, collins guide has been recommended any other opinions (uk)?

Nice. I cannot help you with the books. All the ones I currently use are specific to North America.

Bookwise I prefer Insects of Britain and Western Europe by the same author Michael Chinery - Domino Guides. But do use the Collins one as well
