Hi everyone,

I'm trying to do a custom wire job to connect my Promaster 7000M flash unit to my 350D. I'm going to put a monojack into the Promaster, to connect to my camera. I don't know a ton about cables. Will a stereo cable, instead of mono, work fine?

Thanks.

-Jon

I tried using a 3' length of 3.5mm stereo cable to fire my Alien Bees strobe with my Elinchrom Skyport. It did NOT work. I'm not sure if this is similar to what you want to do?

5D, XTi, 17-40mm f/4L, 70-210mm f/4, 50mm f/1.2L, 85mm f/1.8, 3 - 580EX II, Alien Bees, smoke, mirrors, etc...

Depends entirely on how your unit is wired. In most cases, I've found that stereo cable will work instead of mono to trigger strobes, but not always.

Sometimes stereo cables work fine, other times they are the source of mysterious functional issues.

Enjoy! Lon

Any reason not to try it? Will it cause permanent damage?

Stereo cable will be fine, just use the outer sheild & one of the inner conductors.

One question though, how are you going to attach the cable to your camera? Do you have a spare flash foot or something that you are going to wire onto?

I'm actually going to ditch the wire idea and go wireless. I found out it would cost me $26+ just to get PC cord capability for my 350D. Oh well :)
