I saw, a couple of weeks ago on here....I think it might have been the phamster, was using a golf bag and cart to put his stands, AB's, etc. in, for location shoots. Great idea...thought I: so I start looking around at the sporting goods stores....and it looked like it was gonna be expensive if I had to buy that stuff new. Kinda forgot about that....then one day last week, I spied a thrift store while out...figured I'd go in to see if I could find some funky little chair or some such to use as a prop in a shoot. No luck there...but look at what I see over there....a golf bag, cart ( and 8 golf clubs ! )....for $24 ! Brought it home and removed the divider at the top of the bag so it would be just one large opening....works great !

How many light stands were you able to fit inside that golfbag?
Thanks.

There are two 13' stands w/boom arms attached, 2 10' stands, one has an articulating arm at the top, the other has a cross arm for holding reflectors, as pictured there was also a small stand ( I think it's about 3' )...and there is room for more stuff in the side pockets. In one side pocket you see two cardboard tubes...one is a 18" umbrella, the other is a brolly box. I can hang the vagabound pack there on the back....to be honest I think we're getting beyond the load capacity of the 'bag boy' cart ! As loaded, the wheels are getting a bit of camber there that they aren't liking too well.

And I still need to find a good way to carry the rest of the stuff ( soft boxes, beauty dish, etc. ). Actually, I think I have found a large bag I'm going to buy. It's marketed as a carry bag for motorcycle roadracers to put their riding gear and clothing, helmet, etc in. It's large...about 42"x20"x20"....has wheels and a pull handle like modern luggage has. I think I can get a lot of location shoot stuff in it.

Thanks for all the info, much appreciated.
Please let us know when you buy that "motorcycle roadracers" bag and probably with pictures and cost of the bag plus the link where it can be obtained. I am looking for a large bag like that, which can accomdate about five light stands with few umbrellas. Thanks.

Will do. I can't find a photo of it on the net.....I saw one at the races the other day, and I got a printed catalog....I'll keep you posted when I get it.

I always liked the golf cart idea but I also need and want a flat surface or shelf to mount gear. I opted for a Wesco hand truck over the golf cart.

Hi George,

This is the Wesco hand truck I use:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …er_Folding_Handtruck.html (external link)

The description says 250 lb. capacity but the cart itself says 275 lb. capacity.

I don't have any pics of it loaded up and right now I'm working on some modifications to the car that will have dedicated light stand and accessory holders, leaving the bottom plate for my duffel bag with all the sandbags and the Tronix battery sitting on top of that. Once I have the hand truck modded I'll post some images.

Rob,
Thanks for the reply on the wesco hand truck. I've added that to my 'wish list' as a possible future purchase. I look forward to seeing what you come up with as far as platform/support/modifications.

It's becoming clear to me that I am going to need either good carrying apparatus....or a small army of assistants for location shoots !

I use a garden cart with sides. Something quite like this. Mine has wide heavy duty tires and the sides are higher and they also fold down. Goes through anything. It is light enough that I can lift it in & out of my suburban without any trouble at all.

It works great for all my gear and everything is easily reached.
I plan on toting my BRAND NEW Vagabond around in it. :D

Bought this a couple years ago at a hardware store for less than $70.00.

Used it for gardening until I got into photography.
