I post these NOT for picture quality (I understand they are not "good" pictures) but rather for ID purposes only. I also understad that due to lack of picture quality ID is difficult. But if you could give me some ideas that would be helpful.

Both of these were photographed in western BC Canada.

and a completely different bird in a different location in western BC

an ID help would be appreciated...

1st is possibly a Red-tailed Hawk and the 2nd is a female Northern Harrier...I think.

First shot is a dark-morph Red-tailed Hawk.

Second shot is a female Northern Harrier.

Dark Morph is a darker version of the normally lighter colored Red-tailed Hawks as you see in most images posted.

Not sure how Ephily determined it's a dark morph anyway....the image is underexposed.

Underexposed or not, that hawk is most certainly a dark morph RTH.

Here's a site I found with both dark-morph and light-morph Red-tails for comparison. http://schmoker.org/BirdPics/RTHA.html (external link)

Edit: And dark morph is just a darker version of the regular light-morph. Most hawks come in these two color morphs, with the dark morph usually being rarer. That said, in certain parts of the country the dark-morph of a species might be seen regularly and even seen more often than the light morph.
