Pelican 1450 case with a gripped XSi?

I've currently got a pelican 1400 case to go with my new camera setup, but it's just a bit small. I'm looking at moving to a pelican 1450 case (probably pluck foam) to make just a bit more room. I was also looking at adding a battery grip to my XSi. With the gripped XSi being about 5.5" tall, do you think the 6" interior height of the 1450 case is cutting it too close? I want to be able to fit the camera with my 70-300 lens and the grip installed. My other thought was to store the camera in portrait orientation in the case, limiting the stored height to just over 5".

I'd like to keep the case as small as possible, so the larger 1500 case is not desirable.

Another option I saw is the Starlight case in a 14x14x7, but the handle doesn't look very ergonomic.

Thanks,

Mitch
